In loving memory of Diane Haines who sadly passed away on 8th November 2024, aged 87 years. Diane was born in Johannesburg in 1937. She came with her father and grandparents to live in Nottingham following the Second World War. She married in 1963 and raised two sons. In 1991 she set up house as a single woman and made new friends, worked in an antiquarian book shop and studied with the Open University. From this time until her demise she frequently travelled to visit her sons in Holland and Spain. Diane was also a keen supporter of the arts, often attending arts festivals and classical concerts. It is this interest that is reflected here in her choice of a charity for donations.

Diane you bought so much laughter into my life. Such a caring and wonderful lady who leaves many memories with me and many others. Your tales and stories and that lovely smiling face everytime I saw you will stay with me forever. Deepest sympathy to James and David who you dearly loved and spoke about every day. You will be missed by many but never forgotten. Rest in peace my lovely lady Diane x

Diane was very beautiful in many ways….. a star really. She was glamorous and had a real artistic and dramatic flair for fashion, but she wasn’t a shallow bimbo.
She was an avid reader and had a great knowledge of English history and of the world of drama. She loved Shakespeare and was fascinated by all those who played parts in his plays. She loved Simon Rattle and the classical music played by the orchestras he conducted around the world.

She had an enormous sense of humour, and whenever we met there was lots of laughter. Once, when our ‘coven’ was giggling in Bird’s on Bramcote Lane, we were told to leave because of our loud mirth.
She also had a great sense of the ridiculous. We would dress up in random bits of finery and strike poses for fun.

A typical middle class lady from Wollaton she was NOT.

Her greatest love was for her two adored sons, James and David.

She will be greatly missed by them ….and by all of us.

Rest in peace, lovely Diane.

Dear Diane, you will be greatly missed by all those who were in your life. Your laughter and fun, your care and concern for others and just being you. I don’t know who wrote this but I like it: don’t be sad that she is no more, be glad that she ever was.
