Roger Alfred Bullivant, Pioneering Foundations Leader

It is with great sadness, that we, the family, announce that Roger Bullivant, aged 85, passed away on Monday 11th November 2024 at his home in Derbyshire.

Roger Bullivant was the founder of the renowned foundation engineering company, Roger Bullivant Ltd. Roger's pioneering work as an entrepreneur in geotechnical engineering and ground stabilisation, transformed the UK and overseas construction industry. He will be leaving an enduring legacy of innovation and excellence.

After many years of building up his company, in 2011, Roger made the difficult decision to sell Roger Bullivant Ltd. Despite his retirement from day-to-day operations, Roger’s passion for the sector continued through his commitment to developing new, innovative projects. He promoted cross-disciplinary collaboration in engineering and architecture, advocating for development within the industry, being well known for “R&D”.
Roger's career began at a young age, and his drive for more cost-effective solutions within the house building sector, led to ground breaking solutions for subsidence repair, particularly with his piling techniques.

Beyond his professional achievements, Roger was known for his dedication to mentoring and empowering his staff. Roger inspired his employees and challenged the industry alike to go beyond what was thought to be possible. His impact on both the foundations industry and the many people who worked with him will be felt for years to come.

Roger Bullivant leaves a hole in the foundation of the piling and construction industry. This will not only be the case with his professional accomplishments, but also his personal commitment to family and community. He is survived by his wife, Liz Bullivant, family and many colleagues who will remember him for his vision, leadership and integrity.

As a family, we mourned with a small initial funeral at St Mary's Church Newton Solney and Celebration of Life at Branston Golf & Country Club before Christmas 2024. We then followed this with a wider Memorial Service on Thursday 23rd January 2025, where his work friends and colleagues, past and present, were able to attend. This was hosted at Pirelli Stadium, Burton On Trent.

Many wonderful messages have been posted, and people have been generous in donating to The Alzheimer's Society. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind support following Roger's passing.

Alzheimer's disease is not old age, but a progressive and fatal disease that not only affects the person who has it, but the family and friends surrounding them. By donating to Alzheimer's Society, hopefully some one somewhere will benefit from their research and support. I love my Dad, and miss him every day, a true legend. Forever in my heart, today and always. x

I started working with Roger back in 1997 and continued to for with him and then for the company that bears his name for 27 years. Roger was a true pioneer for the foundation industry and his innovations will continue to provide substructure solutions for many years to come. Roger provided me with the best possible opportunities to develop as an engineer, I will be forever grateful to him.
My deepest condolences to the Bullivant family. RIP Roger

Went to Derby Tech. for A Level maths with him. Always remember discussing with Brab Smith (algebra) why he needed to wear a tie? Fashion according to Roger. And Mr. Marriott in geometry, why he needed to know all of 365 Euclidean Theorems. Well surely he realised why with his successful business. Glad to have met you briefly Roger. RIP. John Riley - now NW Queensland.
