Peter was born on the 15th of April 1954, the eldest child of Margaret and Alan Butterfield. He had two younger sisters, Jane and Gillian.
He grew up in Barnsley and had a happy childhood surrounded by extended family before moving to Barton upon Humber.
Having attended the local schools, both primary and grammar, he went to Northumberland College of Education to study Environmental Science.
It was here that he met Carolyn, and on the 4th of August 1976 they were married at St John’s Church, Ingrow. They had four children: Owen; Gareth; Kirstin and Emlyn.
Peter worked hard to support his family and had a variety of jobs over the years before retiring.
When he was younger Peter enjoyed swimming, including lifesaving. He also loved playing different sports and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren.
Peter was also very creative, producing stunning photographs and watercolour paintings. He was also an excellent folk singer and especially enjoyed singing sea shanties, winning the Angus Russell Shanty competition for Shantymen. The trophy holds pride of place at home.
For Peter his family was the most important thing in his life and his love and pride in them was clear to see and was fully reciprocated. He will be sadly missed but leaves with us so many lovely memories of him.
