Ralph Beaumont Passed away in Rotherham Hospice on 10th November 2024 aged 90 years.
Graduating in 1956 with a degree in Natural Sciences from Selwyn College, Cambridge, Mr. Beaumont spent his National Service in the Royal Air Force where he was awarded a 3-year Short Service Commission, stationed at No. 1 School of Technical Training, R.A.F. Halton where he lectured in aerodynamics, physics and metallurgy.
Joining United Steel Companies in February 1960, he spent the next 34 years pursuing a career in the steel industry in a variety of senior executive roles encompassing metallurgical, sales, marketing and corporate responsibilities before retiring in 1994..
Outside of steel, Mr. Beaumont was very active in local and community affairs.
He served as President of the Rotherham Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1969 and also President of Rotherham Chamber of Commerce in 1989. In retirement, he was Chairman of the Rotherham Crime Reduction Programme from 1994 to 1998, he served on the Board of Visitors of HMP & YOI Moorland from 1997 to 2003, a trustee of Age Concern Rotherham from 1998 to 2014, a trustee of FairShare South Yorkshire from 1997 to 2004.
Rugby and athletics were Mr. Beaumont's favoured sports at school, university and the RAF. In his later years, he was a Vice President and an active member of Rotherham Rugby Club.
Church bell-ringing (campanology) was also a lifelong interest. He had been a member of Whiston Parish Church since 1980 where he was Ringing Master for 25 years.
Mr. Beaumont leaves a widow, José, two sons, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
