My amiable oga, a fine gentleman senior officer and a soldier of Christ. The reality of your passing into greater glory is still a rude shock that I struggle to come to terms with every time I ruminate on how fleeting life is. Jolting back to the reality of your transition to the realm of saints is still perplexing but we submit to God Almighty, our maker who is all-knowing. Words fail me to convey how devastated I was when I heard the news of your passing however I am consoled by the fact that you are with your maker having lived a purposeful, impactful and pious life. Even though we would have loved to have you around for many more years but who are we to question God Almighty? From the first day we met in Nigerian Military School Zaria after my commission and posting in 2008, you were more than a superior, mentor, guide, encourager, role model, elder brother and adviser. Your calm disposition, willingness to guide with brotherly love and sincere admonition endeared me as well as other subordinates to you. You were very intelligent, jovial, easy-going, firm, kind to a fault , honest, purpose-driven, pragmatic, professional, courageous, result-oriented, determined and took the things of God vigorously and passionately.
I still remember vividly the events of our meeting and brief stay at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Education Corps, Yaba, Lagos upon your return to the country after your academic sojourn culminating in the completion of a PhD programme in Chemistry. We were optimistic and confident about the successes that were ahead of the next chapter but it is well. I will never forget your kindness, gifts and the lovely memories shared since from 2008 up until you left for the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on posting. When I got the news of your appointment as the pioneer Commandant of the newly established NDA Boarding Secondary School, I was pleased and I recall how you made frantic efforts and uncommon commitment to give the School a solid start. These will be forever remembered. I could also recall how with intense passion and genuine commitment we spoke on the efforts needed from all involved to ensure a successful entrance examination for applicants. What else can I say? It is well oga sir.
My Prof sir, I still struggle daily to come to terms with your passing and also finding the right words to express my pain but I find solace in the fact that you are resting in the bosom of your maker. Adieu Lieutenant Colonel OA Babarinde PhD, my amiable, amazing boss with a big heart, big brother and an academic of note. Rest in power till we meet again sir and may God Almighty console Madam, the children as well as the family members you left behind, Amen. Adieu sir
