In loving memory of Jim Navin who sadly passed away on 27th October 2024.

Jim was born on 4th September 1946 to Mary and ‘Jimmy’ Navin. Raised in Lancashire Jim had a younger brother John Navin. Following attending Art College in Manchester, Jim lived in Sussex, Manchester, St Ives Cornwall and finally settled in St Erth Cornwall in 1979 where he resided until passing.

Father to five children Jim is survived by his wife, Sally Navin.

An active member of the community, Jim had many interests and passions, in performing music, being a founder member of the Porthmeor Surfing Association, Skateboarding, Scout Leader, Fishing, the St Erth Players, the St Erth Feast Committee, History and Archaeology and was a gifted creative in art, textiles and photography. Jim had a passion for the outdoors and bringing people together by whatever means.

He worked in many occupations, notably running a fishing boat in the early 70’s in Sussex with his good friend George, running the Sheaf of Wheat in the late 70’s in St Ives Cornwall, beach Lifeguard and then training as an Archaeologist and becoming a teacher in later years, before finally opening Jim’s Bakery as a self taught baker supplying bread to his local community in St Erth and beyond until the end of 2023.

Jim had many years of friendship across the various communities he was part of. His oldest, lifelong friend being Neil Caygil known since his very early days in a band with his brother John.

In later years, Jim was a regular feature of the Duck Race in St Erth, with his Duckaphone commentary, and a particularly splendid hat!

Jim, ‘West Coast Jimbo Bear’, was not known for conformity in his attire. Rarely seen in a suit and tie, he was most often seen in T-Shirts, shorts and flip flops. His playful surf-style attitude towards his clothing reflecting his general attitude in life, don’t take it too seriously and try to have some fun along the way.

A short, but brutal battle with Dementia and Alzheimer’s ended Jim’s life on 27th October 2024.

Jim will be known, remembered and missed by many whose lives he touched.

The family are happy for memories to be shared by all who knew and loved Jim.

A wake will be held at The Star Inn, St Erth following the funeral.

In our hearts forever.
