FROM ALL IVYS FRIENDS - THE EULOGY
I am speaking today as Ivy’s friend for the last 26 years or more and also on behalf of her parish friends
We will always be proud of Ivy for the kind and caring way she looked after her husband John in his final years.
Ivy was the perfect friend throughout her time with us. She was reliable, diligent, conscientious, versatile, trustworthy, loyal – any adjective of praise you care to mention applied to Ivy. Nothing was too much or indeed too little for her and everything she did, she did with enthusiasm, with courtesy and, wherever possible, with a laugh and a joke.
Ivy’s enduring characteristic was her selflessness - a boundless desire to help others, often without being asked. That is what so endeared her not just to us but to all who came across her. Ivy loved gardening particularly hellebores and forget me nots and she would swap plants in times gone by but then she found it too much for her Today we wear the forget me not as a token of love
We know Ivy enjoyed her life and Kingston Town Jamaica where she was born and grew up because she told us and it was her dream to go back and visit it again In fact she spoke about it in her final days It is true to say that Ivy found the road where secrets lie of heavens home in days gone by and implanted it in her heart
And so because of Ivy’s qualities, not only in church but also of course with her family and friends it becomes all the more difficult to say goodbye. All I can say is that precisely because of those qualities, Ivy’s memory will live on in our thoughts and in our hearts for a long, long time. Her kindness, her generosity of spirit and her dedication to others was an example to us all and I have no doubt that on 30th September 2024 Heaven reclaimed one of its angels. When we see a forget me not flower we will remember Ivy
May she rest in peace.
