In loving memory of Jean Mary Jeanes, who sadly passed away, peacefully, on 15th October 2024.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and share your memories of Mum (Jean).
Jean was born in Bethnal Green, East London, in 1937. A proud Eastender, she never lost touch with her roots, although home for the past 50 years or so had been in Taunton, Somerset where she moved to in 1970 with her husband, Allan.
Jean's work was mainly in the area of financial administration, and worked for companies such as John Lewis, and the Co-op group during her long career. She was always good with numbers, and her mental arithmetic was as strong as ever! Coupled with her love of numbers an avid interest in crosswords and wordsearch puzzles. A copy of 'Puzzler' was never far away!
Mum was good with her hands, and there was always a set of knitting needles or cross-stitch within easy reach. Many (!) have benefitted from her skills which certainly stretch back good amount time, but most recently with cardigans for her wonderful great-granddaughters Arabella and Ophelia - please do have a look in the photo section!
Jean was, in her very nature, a generous person. She was always thinking of others, lending a helping hand, making and sending gifts and presents, always remembering birthdays, and, of course, baking cakes for every conceivable occasion! Again, have a look in the photo section for some of her most recent creations. Suffice it to say that a visit to mum was unlikely to have resulted in you not having some form of cake and tea!
Family and friends were extremely important to mum. She was very proud of her children, Kevin & Paul, and daughter-in-laws, Mary & Marianne; her grandchildren, Tilly, Chelsea, Chloe and Tia, and her great grandchildren, Arabella & Ophelia. She always wanted to know what they were up, thinking of them and sending messages when they had something important or significant coming up. Her friends, too, were of central importance and she was always looking out for them as they did for her. We are reminded of a plaque given by mum's late friend and neighbour Vee Scott, which reads 'friends like you are hard to come by'. With that in mind, we would like to record here our thanks to several friends, including Matt, John & Lisa, Tracey, and Chris who all helped Jean in several different ways. Her neighbours, Pete & Julie, have been a constant support to mum in the latter years, and did a great deal to enable her to continue living independently - we are very grateful. And, not least, to Jean Chard...thank you for being an amazing friend to mum for over 50 years - your friendship meant the world to her. We know her loss will be as difficult for you as it is for us, but we cannot thank you enough for your lifelong friendship, love, and support.
Jean's funeral and thanksgiving service will take place at Taunton Deane Crematorium, Wellington New Road, Taunton, TA1 5NE on Monday 11th November 2024 at 2pm, conducted by the Rev'd Derek Page, former Senior Minister of Ruislip Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend and we would be very pleased to see you. Please also feel free to add any tributes or photos you would like to leave - we would be delighted to read them.
And finally to mum: thank you for everything. We are extremely fortunate to have had you in our lives for so long, and we will miss you so very much.
Paul & Kevin
