Christopher James Bath (18 Jun 1981 - 27 Sep 2024)
Funeral Director
Christopher James Bath, beloved father, family member, friend, and gifted architect, died Friday, 27th September 2024, at age 43.
Born 18th June 1981, in Harrow, England, Chris was an award-winning architect who led development projects throughout southeast England and was widely known and respected in his field.
He joined bptw in 2007 and, since 2017, had served as partner in the firm. Chris was passionate about using the power of design to elevate spaces, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of those who live in them. His work on Rochester Riverside, a highly successful regeneration project, earned bptw its first Housing Design Award.
Chris earned a bachelor’s in architecture from the University of Portsmouth and a master’s in architecture from Oxford Brookes University, where in recent years he served as a guest lecturer. He was also committed to developing new members of the architecture community, actively working to develop younger staff at his firm and advocating for greater diversity and inclusion in the industry.
Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening, playing tennis and cheering on (or more accurately, bemoaning) his favourite football team, QPR. He also loved to take on creative and ambitious house and garden projects, such as building a treehouse for his beloved sons, Hooper and Foley, and constructing an impressive pergola above the barbecue. His projects were underpinned by a desire for togetherness, and his home and garden were often filled with the family’s close friends from the village.
Chris loved to travel and built friendships around the globe. He travelled to 26 countries during his lifetime, ranging from India to New Zealand to Greece. A recent trip to the Azores was one of his favourites, and he was hoping to return in the near future. Chris’s most visited destination was, unsurprisingly, the United States, which he travelled to on 20 occasions, spending time in 14 different states. Chris made nearly as many trips across the channel to France, including a 2013 trip to Bordeaux, where he and his wife were married. Chris loved showing his children the world, and his penchant for travel lives on in them.
He is survived by his wife, Allyson, and sons Hooper and Foley; brother Jonathan Bath and wife, Gemma, and nephews Oakley and Hudson; mother Bernice Bath; in-laws Gerald and Mary Ann Trostle; brother-in-law Tim Trostle, nephew Charlie and niece Hannah. He is preceded in death by his nephew Hunter and his father, Graham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Skye High Foundation, an organisation close to Chris’s heart. Please see link below.
A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, 1st November at Thames View Crematorium, DA12 3JH, with a wake following at The Rose and Crown* in Shorne.
