from Mum's friends in France
We are Di and Adrian Hall-Patch and knew Cherry very well! We were the couple who smuggled Roy and Cherry out of the country, with the connivance of the hospital so that he could be treated in the UK.

We live in Glandon just up the road from Cherry's house in France and many a good evening has been had, including Quizzes and the best joint 60th Birthday party you ever saw! We are still here and when Cherry came back on her own to sell the house, she always came here for Sunday lunch!

You and I have spoken, Maxine. I used to phone Cherry regularly and one day, when she didn't feel too good you took the phone to her and Cherry and I had a chat. I phoned her in the hospital as well, as my number was the only one named, so she knew it was me!

We have a couple of her paintings as well. She was a lovely person and never let things get her down however bad she felt! She had a wicked sense of humour and a wonderful laugh!

We will miss her always, our thoughts are with you and your families Di and Adrian.

Hello Michaela and Maxine. Could you let us know if the funeral has already happened, or, if not when and where it will take place. We would like to send flowers if possible, or otherwise maybe a donation to a cause which meant something to Cherry.

We will always remember her as a beautiful soul, always generous. Although she did not have much she was able to use her considerable talent to make gifts, birthday cards and so on which meant so much more than shop-bought things, as so much thought and effort went into making those special personalised items from the heart. We have attached a few pictures we would like to share with you. The fancy dress karaoke was from the joint 60th birthday party she shared with Di, Maureen and Jan. You may get some similar ones from Jan. Maureen, of course is sadly no longer with us, but we cherish the memories of that time. The party was a riot, although the Karaoke would not have won any awards!! Among the pictures is one of some painted eggs, which Cherry made as a birthday gift for Ade. Clever, very special, and much more appreciated than an expensive gift!

We hope you are all well and managing to cope with the loss of our beautiful friend and your beautiful mother. Let us know what we can do regarding flowers or whatever.

With warmest regards from Ade and Di xxx

A truly beautiful person and a wonderful friend

Good Morning Maxine. I really can imagine what you must be feeling. It's difficult to remember specific things because she was always kind and didn't have a vicious bone in her body. She had a naughty sense of humour and a big laugh. She was so funny. I know she was devoted to you and your sister. She would never ask for help because she didn't want to be a bother. She was the most incredible artist. I kept every card she ever gave me. My favourite is a dopey cow with huge eyelashes. Take and look after yourself. Terrible news but having seen the progress of a brain tumour, you don't want them to be in any more pain.

I've know Cherry my whole life. Growing up on the same square she live in Yalding. I am and always been best friends with her eldest daughter Maxine. Growing up I spent half my life in her home. Two thing stand out for me as a life long memory. We set up out Goal square in front of her living room window, as there was a concrete post already on the corner of the grass, it just seemed obvious to us kids. You and the whole house knew when you scored a cracker of a goal. The windows would vibrant for ever after the loudest bang. Also the first place I ran when I had a fight with a sawing machine, I put the needle throw my finger, broke it off and ran across the road to Maxines, where Cherry pulled it out for me. My love goes out to Cherry's family. She will be missed.

  • Thank you so much Miles bestie..I remember all of your memories Miles, the goal posts were ok, it was the football smacking our window that used to send you all scattering off in different directions, so funny to watch from inside the house! You scared the life out of us when you turned up with the sewing machine needle right through your finger-and it wasn't even hallowe'en. such lovely memories - mum was always one to run to for help x

You will be sadly missed by myself and my daughters Izzy and Millie. You were always kind, welcoming and giving. I don't recall ever seeing you angry: frustrated or sometimes exasperated but never angry. A rare gift in a person. We will think of you often with fond memories. You leave behind a legacy of love, daughters and grandchildren. Rest in peace Cherry.

Cherry, reunited with nan and grandad and your loving siblings Len, Sue and Peter. I will love and miss you always, I remember a beautiful crochet bag you made me, lined with shiny material and wooden hoop handles. It was my first proper bag and I adored it, I think I used it so much the material disintegrated. Salt dough figures and horseshoe, hand painted cards and jumble sales with nan. I always knew you were there for me to reach out if needed and I knew you loved me as I do you. You raised two amazing girls who both share your compassion and empathy for others, they are strong and I will always be here for them if they need me. Rip and party with the family xxxc

One of Mum's favourite passages is "GO PLACIDLY- AMID THE NOISE AND THE HASTE"
from Max Ehrmann's poem Desiderata - Mum loved the words, as it reminds us in a world full of noise to remain calm and composed in the midst of all the chaos..
