In loving memory of Alexander Barnet "Alex" who sadly passed away on 3rd October 2024
It's with great sadness to inform all our dear family and friends that Alex passed away peacefully on Thursday night after a short spell in hospital with a chest infection and covid. I caught covid a few days later from him and finally tested negative on Thursday late afternoon and headed straight to the hospital with Megan and Melanie following just behind us he was gone 45 minutes later at 08.15pm. It was just as if he was waiting on his 3 girls to arrive. We were chatting away after a few false alarms when we thought he had gone. He didn't open his eyes but I think he heard us. He was very peaceful.

Dear Margaret, Melanie, Craig and Megan. Tony & I send our sincerest condolences to you all on the passing of dear Alex. He was such a lovely person, a quiet and unassuming man who loved to be amongst friends. He adored little Hamish and in return, the little dog was always by his side. Many memories we have of chatting to him at your famous house parties and festivals in the town, may he now rest in peace. Sending love to you all - Jane & Tony Doyle xxx

Dear Margaret, we are very sorry to hear of Dear Alex’s passing. May he rest in eternal peace.

Ours hearts sank when we heard this sad news. Although we knew he wasn’t keeping well , one is never ready and it is very hard to accept the loss of one’s dear friends.

Alex was a very good man and a thorough gentleman and a great mentor for me. The time we spent together onboard the MV Palmstar Thistle and then subsequently in Vancouver are wonderful and cherished memories for us.

It is hard but we can take solace that he’s in a better place now. He lived a good life and had your wonderful company and love. I remember the time I visited your lovely home in Southampton for dinner. It was great meeting you, Alex, Mel and Craig and your Megan too after a long gap.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family at this difficult time. Please do take care of yourselves. We should celebrate the good and noble life that Alex lived and his years of service to the Maritime industry.

With our love, respects and prayers.

Nita, Rajnish, Anisha and Nishant Kelkar.

So sorry to hear your sad news Margaret. Our thoughts are with you, Melanie Megan and Craig. We have fond memories of you and Alex as our neighbours for a brief time here in Quillan. When we were building our house next to you Alex would pop round to help and we'd spend an hour or so over a beer and swap anecdotes. Happy days. All the best to you xx
