In loving memory of Melanie Gunner who sadly passed away on 21st September 2024.

Melanie was born on the 11th of May in 1980 To Joan and Paul Longworth. She grew up in Grove, Wantage with her sister Allison and her brother Christopher. She had a happy childhood, with family and friends at the centre of everything.

After finishing school, Melanie followed her dream and trained as a children's nurse in London. From 2003-2017 she worked as a children's nurse at Guys and St Thomas' (Evelina London Children's Hospital). It was during this time she met Matthew. After a short 5 year 'courtship' they married and moved to Earlswood. This is where they settled and had three wonderful children; Daisy, Charlie and Oliver.
From 2017 Melanie moved Jobs to Maple unit at the Children's Trust, where she continued her career as a children's nurse.
Melanie made the most wonderful friends, throughout every step in her life. She was loyal, caring and fun.
As a nurse Melanie had a positive influence on too many lives to count, colleagues, patients and their families.
As a daughter, sister, auntie, niece and cousin Melanie was always the one who would light up the room.
As a mum and wife, Melanie was our everything.

Melanie shone.

If you knew Mel at any point during her life, or want to come to support any of the family, you are very welcome to join us for Mel's funeral/reception. All are welcome.

There is no dress code - if you feel comfortable wearing suits/dresses, please feel free to but there obligation. The church is a short walk up the hill from Earlswood train station (car parking is on local streets). The reception is a 10 min car journey away.

I have great memories of working and partying with Mel from Guys to Evelina, from The Roadhouse and The Swan! Mel was a wonderful nurse, her compassion shone through at all times. Thinking of Mat and their children at this sad time and sending all my love and strength. I'm sorry I can't be at the funeral but I shall be thinking of her and all those she left behind, and will raise a glass to her when I can.

It is so hard to comprehend that Mel is gone. We worked together at the Evelina and she was one of the best, of the kindest nurses I worked with. She always managed to smile and to keep her cool … even during the most stressful shifts. I am so so sorry for Matt to lose his soulmate and for the children to lose their mummy. Grief is love with no place to go …. Keep strong. Sending lots of love.
