In loving memory of Marjorie Jespersen who sadly passed away on 15th September 2024 aged 96 years.
Marjorie was born in Leicester on March 28th 1928. Her father, Samuel Shilton, served in World War I and married Phyllis Dale shortly after his return.
Her childhood, before World War II, included playing in the park, riding her bike everywhere and buying sweets. When War was declared, Marjorie was 11 and by then she had a baby brother, David. Marjorie liked school and was good at Sport, English, and Art. After the war, Marjorie trained in shorthand and typing and worked for a law firm, Chapman and Goddard in Leicester.
In 1947, Marjorie met Ian at a dance, and they married in 1954. Ian became an Architect and completed National Service, forming lasting friendships, particularly at the American airbase in Bruntingthorpe.
Alistair was born in 1958 and Susan in 1960, moving to Derby where Ian became a partner at Morrison Design. In 1966, they designed and built a home in a field in Kirk Ireton, where they lived for 50 years.
Marjorie and Ian joined the Wirksworth Rotary Club in 1968, actively participating until Ian's death in 2016. They contributed to charitable events, particularly the Aquabox project, which provides aid to disaster areas.
Marjorie had four grandchildren: Anisa, Nyma, Oscar, and Emilia, and two great-grandsons, Freddie and Leo. She was devoted to her family and has been described by her grandchildren as being vivacious, gracious, full of joy, incredibly chatty, wise and funny.
Marjorie cared for Ian who had vascular dementia at home until she was 89.After Ian died Marjorie moved to Sheffield and in the last few months received care at Orchard House Care Home in Ruddington, close to her granddaughter and great grandsons.
Visits from Freddie and Leo brought her happiness, and Freddie still waves at Great Granny's house, as he passes by.
Rest in peace, dearest Mum, Granny, Great Granny. You will always remain in our hearts.
