In loving memory of John "Barry" Pashley who sadly passed away on 5th September 2024

John Barry Pashley, known as Barry Pashley
Born: 4th August 1944
Passed Away: 5th September 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Barry Pashley, known as Barry, on 5th September 2024. Born on 4th August 1944, Barry’s life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a profound love for his family, music and sports.
Barry’s journey in the professional world was one of determination and success. He qualified as an Accountant through sheer perseverance and went on to become a Financial Director, eventually rising to the position of Managing Director. His career was a testament to his professionalism, ambition, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
In 1967, Barry married the love of his life, Diane Mary Hattersley. Together, they built a life filled with love, music, and shared passions that they shared with their 3 daughters, Nicola, Kate and Sarah. After Diane passed away in May 1997, Barry met Hazel, who became his best friend and soulmate through their retirement years. Together they enjoyed many years of love, laughter, and cherished family moments.
Barry’s lifelong love of music was evident in his involvement in choral singing, where he served as a lead chorister and played the piano accordion. He was an active member of church choirs and had the honour of performing with the National Youth Choir at the Royal Albert Hall at the age of 16.
Barry was also an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing cricket, badminton, golf, volleyball, and loved long walks in the countryside. His love for these activities was a reflection of his energetic and vibrant spirit.
Barry was a much loved father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend to so many. Barry is survived by his ever-loving daughters: Nicola Wong, Kate Meadows, and Sarah Lytheer. He was a devoted father who could always be counted on to offer guidance and support on many aspects of life. Barry’s legacy is one of love, family, friendships and many fond memories.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held on Monday, 30th September 2024, at St Mary’s Church, East Leake, at 10:45 AM. Following the service, refreshments will be served at Rushcliffe Golf Club, Stocking Lane, East Leake, LE12 5RL.

Donations in memory of Barry are for East Leake Community Care Association and Nottingham University Hospital Trust - SWAN Project. Both these organisations are described below

East Leake Community Care Association - Barry volunteered for East Leake Community Care for many years. The objective of the Association is to promote the welfare of the inhabitants of East Leake without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, political, religious or other opinions by associating with the local authorities, churches, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to promote Community Care and to provide such facilities and services in the interest of social welfare as are desirable for improving the conditions of life for the villagers of East Leake.

Nottingham Hospital Charities - SWAN project. The Swan Project helps support patients and their families towards the end of their life. As part of the initiative staff can create positive memories using items such as ‘memory bags’ for a patient’s property and encouraging families to take personal mementos such as hand prints, as well as focussing on spending close family time together before bereavement. The swan project was very supportive whilst Dad was unwell, and gave the close family many items to help his grandchildren cope with his passing.
