On 14th September 2024, peacefully in hospital, of Dewsbury, aged 71 years, Derek, much loved husband of Carolyn, dearly loved dad of Matthew and Sarah, cherished grandad of Reese, Ella, Zara, Jake, Zoe and Oscar, loved son of the late John and Betty Birkenshaw, beloved brother of the late John, a very dear and loved father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and great uncle.
Funeral service will take place at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium on Tuesday 8th October 2024 at 2pm. Relatives and friends please accept this intimation. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu may be made online or placed in the collection box provided for the benefit of MacMillan Cancer Support.

My heartfelt condolences to all the family. Mr Derek, as we knew him in the 12th Leeds Boys Brigade, was a quiet, respectful man who just got on with the business of ‘doing’, whatever he was asked or saw needed doing. I long remember the green Land Rover being full of lads on Friday nights or on weekends away. Rest in peace now Mr Derek.
