It is with profound sadness that Susan, Lesley and Deborah announce the passing of their beloved father, Malcolm Arthur Macrae (Mac) on 26th August 2024 aged 87. He fought a stoic battle to the end. Malcolm was a loyal and loving husband to the late Jean, much-loved father and father-in-law, and adored grandfather and great grandfather. He was a caring older brother, uncle and friend to many. The service and cremation will take place at Skipton Crematorium on Monday 30th September 2024 at 1.00pm. Family flowers only please, but any donations in memory of Malcolm can be made to The Alzheimer's Society. Please note black funeral attire is optional.
Dad was born in Glasgow to Malcolm and Violet Macrae and he was very proud of his Scottish Heritage. He left Scotland at a young age to move with his parents to Coventry and later to Nelson. He spent a happy time in Dumfries again when he was 7 and was sent to live with his grandparents for a time when he became a proud big brother to his sister, Fiona.
Most of dads formative years were spent in Nelson where he applied himself to his football skills but perhaps less to his schoolwork! Despite his lack of application, he was the first child from his junior school to pass the 11+ - he was given the afternoon off to go and tell his mum who thought he was playing truant!
After school he became an apprentice at Rolls Royce in Barnoldswick where he met Jean Ratcliffe and they married in August 1955. They had been married for 54 years when Jean sadly passed in March 2010. Malcolm and Jean had three daughters and Malcolm was a very proud and supportive father who worked tirelessly to provide a good life for his family. He later became an indulgent and much loved grandad and great grandad. He loved spending time with them all.
Malcolm and Jean lived most of their married life in Earby. Dad left Rolls Royce and spent his final years as head of engineering at Westons in Foulridge - he was a brilliant engineer and he loved his role there. After retiring, Dad found a new sport and he joined the local crown green bowls clubs playing for both Earby and Rolls Royce.
Dads happiest time was spent with his family and he especially loved time with his three girls all together. We cannot fully express our deep love and gratitude for the lifetime of devotion and support that he gave to each of us and we will feel his loss every day.
