In loving memory of Christine Bailey who sadly passed away on 30th August 2024.
Mum, Nanny, Chris.
After a period of being unwell, Chris sadly passed in the morning of 30th August at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield.
Born 13 March 1949, in Broadgreen, Liverpool, to father William and mother Helen, Christine was the baby of her family, being the younger sister to Barbara, Frank, Peter and Wendy. She would often reminisce that her dad's apple trees in her back garden were excellent for making apple pies and of how Frank and Peter, being boys, would get up to mischief. She was able to grow up in the swinging 60s, frequenting the Cavern in its heyday with her sisters and friends.
After working in Marks and Spencer's in the city centre for some time, she became a nurse at Sefton General Hospital, were she met a laboratory technician named Stuart. Christine and Stuart married in 1970 and in 1972 Gary was born. They lived in Old Swan and Stuart trained with the ambulance service. In 1977 they moved to a larger house in Woolton, where their second son, Andrew was born. That became the family home for some years. The house, "the one at the top of Castle Street with the long garden" held fond memories for Christine. She was proud of her garden and you would often see people stop and admire all of the colours, particularly in late summer. The bench next to the front door always seemed to have a neighbour, friend or relative stopping to have a cup of coffee and a natter. Christine's other love was cooking. Her Sunday dinners were always perfect and there was always an abundance of trifle at Christmas. Her Christmas cake recipe travelled the world and she would often find herself catering for hundreds of St John Ambulance volunteers at the Liverpool or Woolton Shows in the 80s and even when a certain Michael Jackson played in Liverpool. There were other fond memories of camping, caravanning and spending weeks on canal boats with family and friends.
Sadly Stuart passed away in 1995 and over time Christine outlived the rest of her brothers and sisters. She did enjoy spending time with her eldest siter, Barbara, taking coach trips out around the UK.
Christine worked until retirement in the local Tesco in Woolton and was able to put her love and expertise of food and cooking to good use working as a butcher and fish monger on the deli counter.
She was now known as Nanny to her grandchildren Michaela, Nicole, Owen, Mia and Kenzi and great grandchildren, Rudi, Charlie and Beau.
During the brief spell between lockdowns in 2020, Christine moved away from her hometown of Liverpool to Ollerton to be closer to family. She was able to help out with remote schooling during lockdown and made new friends and neighbours, bringing with her her scouse wit and forthright personality.
Having conquering a cancer scare a few years earlier, Christine eventually succumbed to complications with her breathing. It was comforting to know that the nurses at her bedside found it a privilege to have met and look after her.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday 24th September 2024 at 2pm. The funeral procession will leave her home at 1:45pm for the short journey to Sherwood Crematorium, Newark Road, New Ollerton.
There'll be a chance to share memories of Mum, Nanny, Chris at the Olde Red Lion Pub in Wellow from 3pm.
