In loving memory of Judith Ann Bowyer who sadly passed away on 1st September 2024
Born in Stoke on Trent just before the start of World War 2 on October 18th, 1938, Judith (known as Judy) began her journey through life. Judy was the elder of two sisters with Valerie being the younger and had a close and loving relationship and upbringing in Staffordshire before later moving to North Yorkshire.
Judy after leaving school got a job at Twyford’s where she met her future husband, Ben. The story goes she walked past Ben in a tight-fitting Jumper, as he past her he announced to a colleague “whose were those” a few years later they would be married.
After getting married she had two daughters, Gail then later Tracy. When the girls were young Judy and her family moved from Stoke on Trent to Wheldrake, York. After a while they decided to look for an older property with character which took some time, this created a new pastime for Gail and Tracy with the surplus disregarded house details, they started the game of estate agents.
Eventually after many years of searching the perfect property was found, St Saviourgate - the project began. Everyone that knew Judy will have heard about St Saviourgate at one time or another. The project was so large that the “nearly resident” painter/decorator began to feel part of the family as he was there that often!
The home became a hive of activity with two teenagers living there with a steady flow of friends visiting on a regular basis. (but remember what happened in St Saviourgate stays in St Saviourgate)
During the late 80s Judy and Ben moved to Suffolk and stayed there for a number of years, where they met some new, good, and lasting friends, however both their hearts where still in York where both of their daughters lived and eventually moved back to the area.
Over the years she then became a grandmother to three grandchildren, Beau, Ella, and Theo, each having their own stories about NINA (pronounced NIN AR)/grandma.
Unfortunately, Ben passed away and after 10 years living with Gail and her family she then moved into her own home in Pocklington where she spent the rest of her life.
A woman with a playful and cheeky sense of humour, and a strange fixation with Marks legs (he does always wear shorts) The day before her passing she was full of life and laughing and joking on a trip to the hairdressers, something that was her religion “hairdressers weekly no excuses…”
Judy enjoyed playing with the girls growing up and later in life with the grandchildren. There was another side to Judy however, the ones that witnessed this will never forget and learned not to push that button again, luckily this was a rare occurrence, something she regularly joked about.
Something that you may not be aware of is Judy was a lover of gardening and interior design in her younger years, enjoyed her fish and chips but was passionate about chocolate Brazil Nuts and liquorice all sorts throughout her life.
Judy passed away on the 1st of September 2024 unexpectedly, although she had been suffering from Alzheimer's for a number of years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all.
