Following a spirited two-year fight against cancer Jeff passed away on 8 August 2024.

Jeff will perhaps be best remembered by those who knew him for his easy humour, his considerate and pragmatic nature, his literary efforts - particularly his poems, and in the local area, for his marketing and communications business. He made a difference. He will be missed by many and missed immeasurably by those close to him.

We would like to advise you of Jeff's funeral and following gathering to celebrate his life.

There will be no need for black clothing or sombre attitudes. Jeff preferred that his life be positively celebrated, rather than mourned.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday 11 September at 11am at Southend Crematorium, Sutton Road, Southend, SS2 5PX in the West Chapel.

Following the funeral we invite you to an informal celebration of Jeff's life at the Roslin Beach Hotel, Thorpe Esplanade, Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea SS1 3BG from 12-4pm in the Ballroom. The hotel has a car park at the rear, there is alternative parking along the seafront (pay and display), and large car park on Eastern Esplanade (SS1 2ES), prior to the hotel.

As requested by Jeff, there is no need for expensive flowers. Instead, Jeff asked that donations of the equivalent cost of floral tributes be made to charity, should you so wish. Links to his chosen charities are on the right of this page.

Please use the Attend Funeral button below to let us know if you are able to attend the funeral. You can pay your condolences and leave memories below, should you so wish.

I first met Jeff when we started St Helens school in September 1958 a long long time ago. We lived close to each other and growing up we became close friends . In our early childhood we rode our bikes , we climbed trees, made camps and went fishing . Jeff taught me to fish , a very patient teacher as I recall , a hobby that is still with me today . As we got older , we learned how to drink , we frequented many of the local pubs , especially The Bridge House in Canning Town , where rock music became a way of life .
We started work , and Jeff was in to his artworks , I still have an oil painting by Jeff hanging on my wall at home , it is dated 1974 .
By this time we started chasing girls and we went on our first independent holiday to Butlins , I think we we were aged about 16 or 17 , a gang of about 6 teenagers . We had a good circle of mates .
As time moved on we married our girlfriends and had kids . All through any troubles which, marriage brings I would know that Jeff was on the end of a phone or email , and both of us sadly divorced . Many a time through any troubles we would end up discussing our troubles over a pint .
As life settled down again we kept in touch and through his illness I hope that I was some comfort to him on our visits .
Jeff was always a good friend to me and I hope he felt the same . I don’t think there are many people in life that you keep in touch with for 66years .
His passing has brought me many fine memories of our childhood and I know our mutual friends at yesterday’s funeral felt the same , we had a few chuckles and I know Jeff would have been pleased with that .
Rest in Peace Jeff . You were a good friend and will be sorely missed !

Anyway my memories of Jeff are still very clear mostly of our time at Creative Sales in the eighties, we had great banter between us we got on very well, he was a throughly nice decent talented bloke even though it’s a while since we actually met( you both stayed with us in Brighton) we always sent each other jokey silly Christmas messages keeping that banter going!
We Will light a candle for Jeff at our local church here in Spain tomorrow.
Best wishes Richard and Diane
