It is with immeasurable sadness that we have to share the news that David Ieuan Bowen passed away on the 11th of August. His passing has come as a shock to us and we are trying to understand this new normal.

With a personality that could make anyone feel loved and welcome, the world has become a little bit sadder.

David, or as many knew him as Ieuan, was a devoted husband, loving father, annoying little brother. caring uncle, brother in law, proud godfather and friend.

Throughout his life Ieuan experienced many lives, the Air Training Corps, the Fire Service, Male Voice Choir, and one of the founders / directors of Heritage Funerals.

His passion for animals led him in the last few years to be a valuable volunteer at Whipsnade Zoo but it wasn't just the animals he loved, he also loved chatting to everyone and sharing the photos he had taken with people.

Each of these held a special part to him and he touched the lives of all those he met, always with a smile, a joke and a 'how are you sweetheart'.

Out of all Ieuan's accomplishments, it was his family he was most proud of, Mum and I were without question the centre of his world but he always had time for his his wider family whenever the occasion arose including his Niece, Nephews, Great Nephew and Nieces and his Godchildren. Ieuan loved telling anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of his family and would share every photo with pride.

We want to celebrate Ieuan's life, and would ask anyone in attendance to wear what they feel most comfortable in however, red wouldn't be a bad idea as did you know he was Welsh?!? he may have mentioned it once or twice.

Flowers or donations to Harefield Hospital are welcome (please see link on the top right hand side of this page.

We would be most grateful if you could share any memories and photo's you may have of this unique man below and if you plan on joining us on the day to celebrate his life, please click the 'I am attending button'

Thank you for your kindness, and the support we have received so far, and in advance for all the support we will need in the months and years to come.

My son Sam and I enjoyed meeting Ieuan at the Zoo. He even gave top tips on the best seats for the train! He always had a smile to greet us. Jan Kenner-Lee (Ron's daughter) xxx

I was introduced to Ieuan by Ken Hone, with the words “I've found you a tenor” From there on he’s been a true friend and support. We spent many happy times singing together. We’ll miss you buddy RIP.

I met Taff (Dave/Ieuan) when I was introduced to the snooker group he was in at the Con club. I will always remember that permanent, welcoming smile and infectious laugh, the lighthearted banter and the casual way he potted those difficult shots.
When I got to know him better I learned that behind that permanent smile was a very proud man, proud of his heritage, of his family, of his time with the Fire Service, with the ATC, with the choir, with his time at Whipsnade and very very proud with the creation of Heritage.
Everyone at the Con club was a friend, always concerned and asking after him when he was unable to visit, so I know they will join me when I say how very sad we are to learn he has passed away and we won’t see him again. Such a great loss, but you left a big marker friend. RIP Taff

Ieuan with a miners lamp from Snowdown Choir with whom we sang in glorious joint concerts. I met Ieuan through the choir and he kindly introduced me to the funeral business where I worked for a number of years. I am very grateful. Jon Hind.

I cannot believe that Uncle Ieuan, my godfather, is no longer with us. His kindness, warmth and generosity of spirit were unmatched and it was a privilege to have known him for my whole life. He was a guide, a confidant and a friend – with a booming, infectious laugh and a warm, comforting smile. I had not seen as much of him, or Auntie Ro or Sam, as we would have liked in recent years, but we will be forever grateful that Lynsey and I were able to spend time with him in July, although we had no idea it would be the last time.

Memories are too plentiful to recount in full here, including numerous Sunday lunches in Dunstable, our trips to Majorca and Florida, and the strong bond that developed over four decades between the Gibson and Bowen clan – one that has been shaken by this devastating news, but which will always endure. RIP Uncle Ieuan xxx

David was a wonderful nieghbour, always happy, helpful and kind. We had coffees on the pavements every morning during lock down and it was a pleasure to spend that time with him. He loved people and always welcomed them and helped them if they needed help. He always had great stories to tell and words of wisdom to share too. We will miss him lots

We are so sorry for your loss, what an amazing man Ieuan was! He was caring, hilarious and a complete gentleman with the most infectious laugh.
From the years of sharing hockey, and his home with us as teenagers, to be recent years sharing many a chat (usually with a butterfly on his head) at the zoo, just a smile from him was enough to make you smile! He even worked a smile out of Ella which isn’t an easy task!
Can’t imagine how you are feeling at the moment, but sending you our love.
Lorna, Ash & the kids Xxxx
