In loving memory of George Neighbour who sadly passed away on 21st July 2024

In North London streets, where his story began, A boy named George grew to a steadfast man.
Born in '34, midst shadows of war,
He was evacuated, yet his spirit soared.

One of many, in a family so grand,
With brothers and sisters, a close-knit band.
Through tough times, he forged a life so bright. Providing for his family, by day and night.

An Arsenal fan, his passion ran deep,
In victory and loss, his heart they'd keep.
With golf clubs, fishing rods, and darts in hand, he found joy in life's simple, splendid plans.

Dad to Paul, Elaine, and Lynn.
Grandfather to Amy, Joe, Sam, Emma, James and Kelly.
Blessed with Debbie, Paul, Tasha, Kerry, Craig and Jake.
Great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Henry, Luca, Seb, Minnie and Freddie
In his love, a legacy forever webbed.

His beloved wife Pat, our Mum, gone a few years past, Reunited now, their love to forever last.

Traditional English fare was his delight,
Yet a slice of pizza brought a smile so bright.

A whisky in hand, a gentle toast,
To a life well-lived, what matters most.
Though he faced hardships, his spirit was free, creating a haven for his family tree.

Dad , you will be sorely missed,
In every hug, in every kiss.
Your memory a beacon, guiding us through,
With love and gratitude, we remember you.

Karen Casleton donated £20 in memory of George

Rest in piece, you will be missed.

What a great send off for my Grandad George. Here is a poem of one of my favourite memories....

In London town where accents play,
They drop their aitches every day.
My Grandad George, a classic case,
Would often lead me quite a chase.

His brother 'Arry, great chap too,
Would say 'ello instead of 'how do you do'.
And little 'Enry, bless his soul,
Spoke like he'd been born in a hole.

One day while fishing by the stream,
Grandad George had quite a scheme.
He saw a hare, or so he said,
But “air” was what I heard instead.

“There’s an air!” he whispered low,
And all I saw was wind to blow.
I looked around, bewildered quite,
While Grandad George grew full of fright.

“There’s an air!” he said again,
With growing irritation then.
I nodded, trying to play it cool,
Pretending I was not a fool.

But ‘air was all around, you see,
While George was pointing frantically.
He sighed and muttered, quite irate,
Why couldn’t I appreciate?

At last I saw, a furry shape,
A hare, not air, for goodness’ sake!
I laughed and said, “Oh, there it is!”
While George gave me a little quiz.

“In London, lad, we drop the H,
But you must learn to read the stage.
For ‘air and air are not the same,
And this can be a funny game.”

So now I know, when George does speak,
To listen close and not be meek.
For Londoners might drop the sound,
But their meaning’s always around.

So if you hear “an ‘orse” or “ouse”,
Or “enry” scampering through the house,
Just smile and nod, and play along,
In London’s world of accent song.
