Nijole was a very special lady who always made time for everyone. She was a good friend to Dan and I and was always there to listen. Nijole will be remembered with love.

Jane introducing the kids to the legend that introduced their parents and told them they would be married! That was without tea leaves! 😂

Nijole was like a second mum to me when I lived in England, especially when I first moved there. From taking me into her family home to care for me when I had surgery to introducing me to my now wife, introducing us both to Latvian vodka on our wedding day to celebrating the birth of our children - Nijole was part of most of Jane and my key life events. Nijole was not only an inspirational school teacher but life teacher. Nijole touched the hearts of so many and I know that she will continue to care and love for everyone as she now cares for us from heaven.
The joy and the craic Nijole brought to any event or personal conversation always reflected her love pride of her family and ensured that everyone felt part of that family.
I was so happy to have had my children meet the legend that introduced their parents last year. Nijole will always live as the legend of the Doherty family in our stories and prayers. God bless Nijole. Love you. Doug, Jane, Aine, Aoife and Lorcan.

You have been a precious friend to me and my family, a woman of great intelligence and a fantastic sense of humor, your sweetness and your delicacy together with your fragility will always remain in our hearts, and we thank God for giving us the honor and the opportunity to have a person like you in our lives. I will never forget our chats and the beautiful moments spent together, you were a warrior and you taught me that in life you always have to fight until the last breath with all the strength you have, without ever losing the enthusiasm to travel, meet new people and always be grateful to God for every new day that begins regardless of all the adversities. Rest in peace my dear friend. 🙏

From Mrs Kelly my English teacher, to Nijole a best friend.

There aren't enough adjectives to describe Nijole - Intelligent, giving, non-judgemental, loving and kind are just the tip of the iceberg. She really was one of a kind, and one that I am so grateful to have known.

She always had a story to tell - often a hilarious tale that would end up in fits of giggles, yet also always caring, asking questions and interested in everyone else.

Thank-you for everything you have ever done for me

RIP Nijole
Your light and my memories will always shine bright.

I first met Nijole when I arrived as a young teacher in the English Department at St John's RC Comprehensive in 1987. We soon became firm friends and part of one another's extended families, holidaying and travelling together - one year, to Riga Latvia where we stayed with Juras, Inta, Dace and family. Her family, faith and her Latvian identity were everything to Nijole and as I remember the good times we had my thoughts are with Mark, Paul, Sean and all her extended family and many friends. In loving memory of the generous, funny, strong and unique Nijole Ruta Kelly
from her friend Col and all the Hicks and Sharpe family in the Lake District.
