In loving memory of Deirdre Turner who sadly passed away on 5th July 2024.

Mum was born in 1929 and grew up in New Barnet with her twin sister Beryl and brothers Peter, Laurie, and Geoff. Her parents, Ernest and Ivy Seymour, owned a greengrocer and florist, and the family helped with the business, often visiting Covent Garden early for fresh flowers despite the threat of air raids during World War II. At 10, she experienced the war's impact, including air raids and a near-tragic incident where a bomb was defused in their kitchen.

Mum attended Queen Elizabeth’s Girls Grammar School as a scholarship student, facing challenges and working hard despite the demands of wartime and family responsibilities. She excelled in English, Music, Geography, and Scripture, receiving a school prize. Although she desired to continue her education and become a teacher, her father encouraged her to work, leading her to a position as a bank clerk at Barclays.

She loved music, participating in local festivals and performing in Gilbert and Sullivan operas. Mum married in 1960 and started a family, eventually retraining as a teacher in 1968. She taught at Barnet Hill primary school, later becoming head teacher at Child's Hill, and was deeply committed to her career.

After retiring, Mum traveled to China and spent time with her grandchildren, enjoying baking, gardening, and singing with the Barnet Choral Society. She formed meaningful friendships through her church and community involvement, particularly in Sittingbourne after moving there in 2011. Despite facing loneliness and health challenges, she remained positive and engaged with her family and friends.

Mum's life was marked by her dedication to family, friendships, and her passion for teaching. She embodied qualities of love, joy, peace, and kindness, as reflected in her cherished Bible verse from Galatians. Mum lived to 94, passing peacefully due to old age after a life rich with experiences and love.
