In loving memory of Alan Parkin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who sadly passed away on 19th July 2024 at Hayward House, Nottingham.

Big Al. Bongo. RaRa. Papa Bear. Call him whatever you may, Alan was loved beyond words, and is now missed beyond measure.

He was sunshine personified. A beacon of light and positivity, who fought his battle with Cancer with grace, courage and dignity - never letting the bad eclipse the good, and with a twinkle in his eyes at all times.

To know him, was to love him. His thirst for life and infectious smile endeared him to all who met him, and it was this optimism and his naturally cheerful disposition which provided particular comfort for the other families, 'inmates' and staff at Hayward House in his last few months - where the comradery and sense of community he and Jane bought about provided some much needed light relief for everyone in even the darkest of times.

The compassion, care, support and friendship afforded to Alan and the family from the entire team at Hayward House is the reason as to why donations to fund their ongoing, crucial work are being sought in lieu of flowers, should anyone wish to honour his memory in this way. All contributions to this cause will be appreciated as much by the family, as it will by Hayward House itself.

I know my Mum has left a message including me. I do not know why sone deaths hit harder than others, but I have not forgotten Alan, my old friend Eve, the rest of the close, beautiful family. He watched over us as youngsters, gave us confidence, showed that to observe is the wisest thing an that wit can be executed in precise, sharp hilarity. He carried a special soul and I feel the Earth is less-off without him. Taken too soon for sure. Much love.
