Staines Family memories of Pat
Pat has been one of the kindest and most understanding people we have known. Always when visiting her and David at Cobham we were made most welcome. Two particular events come to mind. First, quite a while ago, Claire and I were visiting them for a meal, afterwards staying at a nearby hotel that we had booked online. Firstly we went to check in, but discovered that it was closed and fenced off! The nearby Premier Inn was full as well. When we arrived at Warblers Green and explained our predicament, without any fuss Pat made preparations for us to stay.
More recently Pat was very welcoming to Lorraine. When we were visiting Lorraine’s daughter and partner in London for a few days, Pat and David happily allowed us to leave our car on their drive and ferried us to and from Oxshott station so we could travel to the City without the horrors of driving. Pat provided us with delicious meals at either end of the trip, complete with Scottish treats. During the free flowing and easy conversation she and Lorraine discovered a shared love of Orkney.
Finally, a quote from Pat which Claire and I often remembered, and frequently used ourselves thereafter. At Richard’s wedding to Tizy, at the evening party, while one of the guests was dancing, she cut her foot on some glass and required medical attention, which was provided by another guest, a trained nurse. Then, some years later, when she and David attended the country wedding of daughter Anna, a fire broke out in an adjacent barn and proceedings were interrupted by the arrival of the fire brigade! Subsequent to that, on describing another wedding, Pat finished the account by adding in her lovely Scottish accent ‘….and there were no emergencies!
Just a few happy cherished memories of a very lovely person.
