Richard John Coombes QGM
25 September 1951 - 6 July 2024.

In loving memory of Richard who sadly passed away on 6th July 2024, aged 72.

He was an extremely brave man who suffered life changing injuries as a Metropolitan Police Officer during the Broadwater Farm Riots in 1985.

For many he was a role model, a mentor, a federation rep and a friend.

Helping others around him was part of the fabric of his being & he touched so many peoples’ lives, both during his career and afterwards.

He was very much loved & will be deeply missed by his wife Pauline, his children Louise & Matt together with their families and all of their friends.

The word hero is used very casually these days, but Richard was a hero in the true sense of the word.

I remember Dick and Pauline coming with Louise(4) and baby Matthew just after he was so cruelly injured. He sat on the lawn and sang and played his guitar for the children. Little did we know that he was destined to suffer for years.
