Peter Bettles (14 May 1946 - 3 Jul 2024)

In loving memory of Peter Bettles who sadly passed away on 3rd July 2024. We invite you to join us in a celebration of life service on 26 July 2024 at 11:00hrs at Sherwood Forest Cremetorioum followed by refreshments at the Stanton Arms in Bilsthorpe. Dad was born and bred in Bilsthorpe, where he went on to join the pit as most did at this time. First working at Bilsthorpe colliery he then moved to South Africa in the early 80s to experience gold mining and the life of such a beautiful country. On his return to England he worked at Ollerton colliery until he retired from mining at the age of 50. After retiring he decided, with his late wife Patti, to pursue a dream of living in Spain. Dad and Mum spent 14 great years in Spain until Mum suddenly passed away in 2015. Dad stayed in Spain for a further 5 years, then decided to return to Bilsthorpe after much persuasion. He lived with his Son (Robert), daughter in law (Renate) and 3 grandchildren (Luke, Ryan & Owen). He was happy to be close to family and met up with friends he had not seen for a long time since he left the village. Following a long illness Dad passed peacefully. He leaves a big hole in the lives of the family and friends who cared about him, but treasured memories will never be forgotten.
