In loving memory of David Hewson who sadly passed away on 29th June 2024

David was born and grew up in Gravesend, went to the local Grammar school where after he became head cashier in a bank. Although he was married with two small children he was persuaded to apply to become a police officer.

He was successful in his application and served for a total of 26 years, retiring in 1997. During his time in the police force he received two Certificates of Merit in recognition of courage, the first in 1990 and the second in 1991. He served in various locations in Kent, ending his service in Canterbury within the Custody Suite.

He had an amazing sense of humour and was well liked by many people (even some of those he had cause to arrest!) and much loved by his family and friends. His little dog Ben was devoted to him and can’t understand where he has gone.

He is now probably telling the angels ‘Dad jokes’, and regaling them with stories of his time in the police.

The fun I had with Uncle Dave will stay with me forever! One of my earliest memories was myself standing in the middle of the room and Dave touching my nose, and each time the light would turn on then off! To this day I’m not sure how he did it? He would offer me a lemonade and then bring the tiniest glass you’ve ever seen and wait for my reaction. I have the fondest memories and with him in my life I felt blessed that I could call him my Uncle.

When we think of Dave, we think of laughter, and laughter in abundance. From stories, to jokes, to funny one liners, and the hilarious times playing cards every year at Christmas.
He will be missed so very much, but feel so blessed that he was in our lives and forever in our hearts.
