In loving memory of Glynn Richard Trow who sadly passed away on 24th June 2024, aged 57 doing what he loved most, volunteering at Glastonbury with WaterAid.

A much-loved son of Liz and Alan, brother to Debbie and Hayley, he was forever a Shropshire lad at heart, born and raised in Shrewsbury, he always viewed Bayston Hill as home. Having passed his 11+, he was educated at the Priory School for boys and went on to pass a number of O and A levels with flying colours. He was also a prominent member in his school band playing bass guitar, which had many names over the years, including Amorous Adventure. Whilst working on a local part time archaeological dig, he eventually made the difficult decision to sell his bass guitar to buy a suit for a job interview at BT. He was thankfully successful and so this was the start of a 30-year adventure making friends for life and taking him on adventures around the world. During that time, he also met his long-term partner of 29 years, Sonja and he moved to form a new life in Tamworth with the love of his life.

In 2018 he was afforded the opportunity to take a break from full time work and a new passion was ignited volunteering for the charity WaterAid giving talks to school children around the Midlands, and boy could that lad talk!!!

He also had the chance to do some acting work as an extra on a number of Sky promotional videos and a Netflix production, however that longed for film role never came along and he always said he had a face for radio.

A part time role working at the National Trust Back2Back houses in Birmingham brought a new interest to his life and greeting visitors from around the world at this unique attraction provided him with many a story to tell after work!!

His passion for music never faded and he would often play his bass guitar with friends, along with gigging with family and friends whenever the opportunity presented itself. Having attended the Glastonbury festival in 2016, he truly fell in love with those fields and felt most at home there. Having been unsuccessful getting tickets as a punter over the last few years, he was happy to attend as a volunteer supporting and promoting the important work being undertaken by WaterAid around the world.

However, whenever and wherever you met him, he was never without a grin on his face, providing a warm welcome or hug, he always went out of his way to help, support and guide anyone and made friends instantly. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him, however the memories of nights out, drinking, dancing, playing cards and singing will happily stay long in the memory for all those that he meant something to.

I had the pleasure of meeting Glynn for the first time last year at green man festival. We had an instant connection and shared love for punk bands. We bumped in to each other at a Spanish love songs gig in Nottingham by chance and had a proper good dance and sing along. I was saddened to hear of his death when I was at green man this year. It's become quite apparent to me how much of a positive impact he has made for water aid and in the festival community. My condolences lie with the family.

Well Glynn, sadly I'm not able to attend your funeral mate. I'm truly gutted we won't make that pint in the Welly, chatting away at Green Man, and Glastonbury had a massive grinning Glynn-shaped hole. Im so sad you're gone, but more so, glad we met. You lit up every soul you encountered. Pure Magic mate. Enjoy moshing the great gig in the sky. Xx

We are saddened to learn of Glynn's passing. He was such a kind and generous man, dedicated to WaterAid in all he did. I only met him at Glastonbury but we exchanged messages of support on line encouraging each other in fundraising and giving talks for WaterAId. He was an inspiration and my heart goes out to all who knew and loved him. Glynn it was a privilege to have known you.

I was lucky enough to meet Glynn in 2021, whilst managing WaterAid’s festival volunteers at Worthy Pastures, at Worthy Farm. He volunteered at multiple festival with WaterAid subsequently, including Green Man and Glastonbury. I was so sad and sorry to hear of his death.

I really mean this when I say that Glynn was one of the best volunteers I ever came accross - not only did his passion for WaterAid have no bounds, but he was the kindest of volunteers. He always made the extra effort to send a supportive or appreciative email, was always so lovely to everyone, and was generally just the best, most reliable person to have around in a festival field. His passion for music and WaterAid shone through, meaning he has no doubt engaged hundreds, if not thousands, of festival goers with WaterAid’s work.

He also made a massive positive impression on my mum, who he shower stewarded with at green man, my dad and brother, who he made feel welcome at Glastonbury, and my cousin, who he actually drove to Glastonbury from Birmingham, after a last minute plee from my cousin for a lift on the WaterAid festival Facebook page. He was just that sort of person who made a positive impression on everyone he met.

My condolences are with his loved ones.

Glynn was always one of the highlights of my day, working at the Back to Backs. He always brought a smile to everyone’s face and showed all that was good and needed in the world. I will very much miss our chats about music while lighting the fires in the morning. I hope his legacy lives on and everyone tries to carry on all the good he put into the world.

To my dearest cousin, Glynn.

I and Yuki are so saddened by your passing. We will always remember your gentle and warm way with people and your affable sense of humor. Personally, I have such fond memories from Nana and Grandad’s parties as a teenager, where you were always cracking jokes with your sisters and just generally making us younger family members feel at ease.

You will be sorely missed and forever remembered.

I was really sad to hear the news that Glynn Trow has passed away. Glynn was a kind person, with a good heart. I can hear him now from our volunteers’ room, enthusiastically greeting visitors who came to visit the Back to Backs. He had a lovely manner, which made people feel relaxed when they arrived for their tours. He was perfect for the role in the Visitor Reception.

On a personal note, he would always ask me how I was, and took an interest in things I was involved with. It was nice to chat to him after my tours and generally have a good laugh with him. It was always a pleasure to be in his company.
Glynn Trow was a gentleman and a gentle man, and I will miss him.

Unfortunately, I only had the pleasure of Glynn's friendship for a short period of time, whilst he was working at the Birmingham Back to Backs.
Glynn made a lasting impression on everyone who encountered him, through his abundance of charm, humour, wit, charisma and knowledge, together with his enthusiastic conversation on many subjects.
Glynn will be sadly missed at the Back to Backs by staff members, volunteers and also the hundreds of visitors whom he relaxed and were in a much happier state of mind after spending some quality time in the company of Glynn in the reception
area of the property, prior to the commencement of their tour.
He made our task as Tour Guides much easier, thank you Glynn, you will always be remembered.

Engaging with our visitors at the Back to Backs, Glynn never forgot
Front of house, he was "the man", a super star in his own "Legends Slot"

Rest In Peace, Glynn
