In loving memory of James Picken who sadly passed away on 23rd June 2024 with daughter Liz by his side.
His children, Liz and Jim, and grandsons Craig, Jamie and Dylan are devastated but take solace that he is reunited with his late wife Nancy.
Jim was born in Stobhill on the 26th October 1941 to James and Elizabeth Picken.
On the 18th of September 1965 Jim married Nancy McIntosh, the love of his life, and were happily married for 55 years before Nancy passed away on 19th July 2020.
Jim was a hard working devoted husband, Dad and Pop. Once Liz and Jim jnr were 'doing their own thing' Jim loved nothing more than getting in the car with Nancy and taking a drive out. Sometimes to the seaside, sometimes to the countryside and on occassion to Oban for some milk!
Over the years Jim and Nancy also took many happy holidays abroad, making friends in Lanzarote, Zakinthos, Turkey, Minorca to name but a few...often returning to the same accommodation time after time.
When Grandson Craig came along he found a fellow 'plane spotter' and they made many trips to watch the activities at Glasgow Airport, Pop joking with Craig about 'Easyspan' and 'Globyjet'.
Jim was as proud as punch when Grandson Jamie recently proposed to his girlfriend Stacey whilst on a trip to Australia.
Jim's youngest Grandson, Dylan, visited his Pop every weekend with his Mum Diane. Jim loved giving Dylan his pocket money for taking out his bin or recycling...a wee bit more than the 'going rate" because he was 10 years younger than the other two and had to make up time!
Although not in great health latterly, Jim managed to get out and about on his mobility scooter most days and loved chatting with his ex colleagues in Morrisons whilst picking up a few thousand teabags and a kilo or three of cornflakes!
When not out and about, Jim loved his TV especially watching football. Any football....mens, womens, Italian, African, European, you name it he watched it. Even when his beloved Partick Thistle were getting beat he still watched!
Jim will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
A funeral service is scheduled for 12.45pm on Monday the 22nd July at Glasgow (Lambhill) crematorium. Family flowers only.
