In loving memory of Alec James Ockenden who sadly passed away on 4th June 2024 aged 91 years of age. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Alec loved sport from a young age playing tennis cricket and football for his local village teams in Capel, also playing football for Horsham, Dorking and Ockley.
We feel it befitting that we have chosen a sports charity for donations.
Alec focused on family life after his sporting days were behind him and had many lovely years with his family supporting his children in every way he could whether it be his son playing football or his daughter playing in a band he was always there for them. Alec was blessed with 65 years of marriage to his lovely wife Ella who was his rock, they both ran 18th Dorking Cubs during the 1970s where they gave so much inspiration and support to the younger generation . Alec was a very keen vegetable gardener throughout his life and he took great pride in sharing his crops at many family meals and enjoying lots of days out and holidays with his two children and their partners and grandchildren.
In memory of Alec please join us on Wednesday,10th,July at Randalls Park Crematorium at 9.30 to celebrate his life , please wear something Yellow
or Green. After the service please join us at The Greets at Warnham for light refreshments and food

  • Account of Alec getting injured playing for Horsham FC , an injury that would keep him out of first team football at Horsham FC for some time that would ultimately mean he would look to Dorking Football Club for regular first team football and a date with destiny as he would go on to meet his future wife Ella who was a young girl who made the teas for the players and the rest they say is history.

Tim, Solène, Amélie, Richard Howe donated £100 in memory of Alec

I first remember Alec lovingly driving the green Austin Princess to bring Tarn to band rehearsal and lugging the heavy guitar amplifier out the boot - but he was so much more than that - always the wise old owl behind the scenes - keeping his distance but always looking out for us. He was never loud but when you got to know him he had a great sense of humour and most of all you could tell how much he loved all of his family. He will be truly missed xxx
