In loving memory of Gerd McCarthy who sadly passed away on the 28th May 2024. A beautiful mum to 4, grandmother to 9 and great grandmother to 5, her elegance, smile and dry wit will be cherished forever by her friends and family. Born in Oslo in 1936, she grew up to be a very vibrant and adventurous young lady. In 1955 at the age of 18, looking to improve her English language skills, she swapped skiing, Norwegian meatballs (better than Swedish!) and waffles, for fish & chips, spotted dick and the bustle of Bristol. Marrying John, she continued as a working mum, croupier, restauranteur, nightclub owner and cashier. Subsequently marrying Des, after many moves betwixt Bristol, Cornwall, Clevedon and Swansea, she eventually settled on her own in Southampton. After a stroke on her 85th birthday, she was very well looked after by the Manor and Hawthorns care homes (Thank You! xxx) before passing peacefully. Her final journey will be returning home, where her ashes will floated amongst the Norwegian Fjords. Love You Mum xxx

RIP Grandma, fly high with the mighty saints and hopefully one day your 8-1 to saints score line will come to fruition. Return to oldemor and Bjorn, to the fjords, to the beautiful homeland that is Oslo. Norsk for alltid i våre hjerter
