In loving memory of Samantha 'Sammy' Joanna Hawes who was granted her angel wings, albeit far too soon, on 22nd May 2024.

She had an intense love for nature, art, music and socialising throughout her life, being a talented artist, gardener and essential member of our quiz team in Rayleigh, an event which she relished each week. She always maintained a positive outlook in life, despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at such a young age and also took a great joy in admiring the birds and wildlife in our garden, as well as meeting up with friends and family.

She was a ray of light to anyone that she met and will be sorely missed by family, friends and all that knew her. She also cared greatly for her pets, Rosie (who was a great companion to her for 14 years) and more recently Shadow, a cat adopted from the Cats Protection Service , having been homeless for a number of years, which speaks volumes of her caring and kind nature and her wish to do good in the world.

Please feel free to add any pictures or memories you have on this page.

There will be a memorial service at Southend Crematorium on 1 July 2024 at 2.30pm and all are welcome to celebrate her life and share the many memories they had of her. We would appreciate smart dress, however please do not feel the need to wear dark clothing - she had a great love of colours and would appreciate vibrance at her funeral. The Wake will be held at The White Hart in Hockley (SS5 4NS) from 3.30pm and would be lovely to you there to celebrate her life.

We would also be grateful for donations to the MS Society rather than flowers, to enhance the great work they do in enhancing awareness of and support for those suffering from MS.

Thank you.

It was a beautiful day.I speak of when Sam came to work alongside me in my photographic business. She loved the studio, turning up each day looking fabulous. Always enthusiastic & happy to make the best job of any task or situation. We quickly became a great team but most importantly, great friends. The customers loved her too.
Sam was in her element when we were out on Weddings together as although we were working, there would be much fun & laughter. We would often mull the day over with a cuppa!
In more recent times, Sam would reminisce with great affection about those studio days.
She had an amazing quality of understanding & empathy for others despite her own difficult diagnosis. Recently she commented that although she wouldn't have chosen MS, she believed it had given her a path to finding her love & talent for Art which she may not otherwise have explored. I remember saying "Oh Sam,only you could see it that way"
Words cannot convey the incredible person that has left us all so early.
I will miss her happy & uplifting conversations very much & will always remember her as the absolutely beautiful kind-hearted human that she was.
Love You Always Sam,
Carole A x
