In loving memory of Stephen Rees who sadly passed away on 31st May 2024 aged 63. Flowers will be family only please, but if you would like to make a charitable donation in Stephen’s memory, donations can be made to MacMillan Cancer either by using the Just Giving page attached, or by placing donations in the box on the day of the funeral.

Stephen was passionate about music, NFL and especially motorbikes and liked nothing better than being on the open road especially with his mates. He also had a supersized passion for all things to do with Dr Who he didn’t just buy one each of the DVD’s he had to buy 2 one to watch and one to be kept sealed. He was such a generous person he was always giving and never taking, he was always there to help in any way he could. Stephen worked as a Labourer at Barratt Homes until he could no longer carry on, but we know he loved the job and the people he worked with and really missed working.

Despite battling cancer for 5 years he remained positive and optimistic right until the end. We will miss him terribly.

Thank you to all the Nurses at the MacMillan unit for taking such good care of him during the last few days of his life.

The funeral will be a celebration of his life and all are welcome for a drink or 2 at the Shakespeare Inn, London Rd Shardlow, DE72 2GP.

Please wear whatever you feel comfortable in, casual or smart.

The service today was lovely, I’m sure Stephen would have been happy with it, especially the songs!

I will always remember hanging out with our Uncle Stephen as kids when we stayed with Grandma & Grandad, he was always chain smoking. He let us play Nintendo, watch scary films and play on his slot machine. He would often come back from the shop with a whole roll of scratch cards 😂 I remember he had this little donkey teddy with a tartan bow tie and I really liked it, so he let me have it. It was pride of place on my shelf for many years.

He was a big hoarder and there was loads of sealed Dr Who memorabilia on the shelves in the living room and there was always a motorbike in there. He loved to collect things and most things would be sealed and never used, he said they’d all be worth something one day. A few years ago when we went round he showed us some Levi jeans he’d got in txmaxx, they were about 5 sizes too small but he’d got them for £1 so said it was such a bargain he had to get them, even though he’d never wear them.

He was a kind and generous man and so loved by his family. He was straight to the point and always spoke his mind, his sarcastic comments always cracked us up, right to the end. We will all miss you but I know you’re at peace now and I’m sure you’re riding round on one of your motorbikes that you never actually rode! Lots of love Ashton & family x

We only met a few times but in those times I felt I had known you for so much longer.

Your values and beliefs very similar to mine. Your humour and whit made me smile.

Your inner strength to keep going was 2nd to none.

I have several funny and long lasting memories I will cherish in my heart and my mind.

Thank you for your generosity in sharing your sweets thank you for the giggles thank you for showing me your fight but more importantly thank you for being my friend if all but it being for a short time. Thank you for the memories.

Your friend

Fly high with the angles my friend.

I met Steve working for Barretts. I would know where he was as he carried his radio playing Planet Rock wherever he went. We started going to the Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff about 13 years ago, something I always looked forward to. So many great memories, I will miss our trips so much. Will miss you mate, you battled so bravely. Rest in peace.

There are simply no words to say what a brave strong fighter you were.
You battled for 5 years never once complaining or giving up! You fought bravely to the end.
And although we may not have always seen eye to eye over the last few years you truly became my hero.
Rest peacefully my big bro ( hope there is a big sweetie shop up there )
You will be missed terribly by us all

Love Della
