You are warmly invited to a celebration of the life of Ian John McCulloch.

Ian was born in Agra, India, to Australian parents. He served in the Royal Air Force before working as a bursar. Above all else Ian will be remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to every situation. We will be gathering to share memories and stories in his honour. He is survived by his wife Jean, three children Ruth, Wendy and Guy, and seven grandchildren, Ben, Evie, Rupert, Charlotte, Emily, Lawrie and Seb.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ian's memory to Prostate Cancer - a cause that was close to Ian's heart.

Let's come together to remember Ian's wonderful life and the happiness he brought to the world. This is a celebration of life, and we encourage you to wear bright colours, to reflect Ian's vibrant personality.

There will be a live stream of the service for those unable to attend. Please contact the family directly if you wish to watch this.

For those who are attending the funeral, please click on the link at the bottom of this page to inform us.

Articulate, compassionate, engaging and witty but above all Ian was a true gent. Our paths crossed only in the last few years but he left a lasting impression on us. Unfortunately circumstances prevent us from attending the service but our thoughts and prayers will be with Jean and the family.

So sorry to hear of your loss Jean and Family.
Thank you Ian for spending your life with my lifelong friend, for accompanying her to Guernsey to meet up with me and in recent times facilitating us keeping in touch.
My children still have happy memories of visiting you all in Cranwell, it was great fun.
Such a lovely, caring and talented man, you will be very much missed.

I was so sad to hear that Ian was no longer with us! I worked with him for some very happy years in the Bursary collecting the fees from parents. He was a super boss and always ready and willing to lend a hand (even making tea and washing up) when things became frantic at beginning and end of term. I send all my best wishes to Jean and the family and will be thinking of you all at the funeral tomorrow, unfortunately I can’t be there as I am in France until the end of June.

Quite simply one of the best. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. My own lasting memories will be of the consideration, charm and good-humour he used when interacting with people. I could only look on in envy!

So sorry that we are not able to come to the funeral. Ian was always good company with stories to tell and jokes to share. His caring and compassion was also very evident. Rest in peace.

Jan and I first met Ian and his much loved “Jeanie” when Ian and I were serving as Squadron Commanders at RAF Finningley, South Yorkshire in 1983.

Of similar ages and with similar nomadic upbringings, we immediately gelled, cemented by his wonderful humour, can-do attitude and beaming smile. Whatever the testing times we endured together, my buddy always instilled an aire of calm and injected laughter, joy and kindness. We were destined never to serve together again, but remained firm friends into retirement and through to his final days. In the armed services one tends to make many acquaintances, yet few true friends; Ian was the exception to this axiom and was a friend to all.

So much so that Jan and I feel very privileged to have shared his final stay at his idyllic Congham Hall with Jean, Ruth and Nicholas; this despite his worsening condition. Ian was determined that we should all share a priceless few days together where, once more, we would laugh and reminisce about our joint exploits and our respective families’ events.

I know that somewhere Ian is still smiling and pain free. I believe that we will eventually meet again because true friendships are made for eternity. TIl then God bless you Ian my great buddy.

We knew Ian during our time at RAF Brawdy during the late 70s and I still recall what a fine fellow he was. From other messages it is clear he had a very positive impact on many many lives. We send our condolences to Jean for her loss and the passing of a fine gentleman.
