Stafford Lloyd Newsome was born on 29th February 1940 to Ethelin Christena (nee Anderson) a seamstress and Harold Newsome a butcher in the district of Retirement in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.
Stafford was the first son of the doting couple.
When Stafford was very young; his grandparents could not bear to be parted from him and he stayed with them for a while and saw his aunts and uncles frequently. He had a happy childhood and used to spend time regaling us in stories of his early adventures. He was also famous for his mythical tales of Jamaican life and had a comical way of conveying the stories.
He schooled in Thornton and excelled in mathematics and scientific subjects. He helped his father in his butchers trade and eventually took a job at J Wray & Nephew Appleton Estate Rum Factory near Silo as a ph level regulator.
In late 1960, Stafford decided to answer the British government call to seek his fortunes abroad in England.
He took on a variety of jobs in succession including working as a warehouse manager for Decca, a chauffeur for Racal as well as Europe Car and finally started his own business chauffeuring. He resided in South London for the rest of his life.
Stafford married Jestina (nee Williams) on 7th March 1964 and they together had four children; Carlton, Clive, Karen and Donna.
Stafford loved family and friends and always spoke of how proud he was of his wife and children. He was always regarded as a great father, husband, friend, relative and confident. Everyone loved, respected and adored his sense of humour, positive spirit and energy and was the life and soul of any gathering or party. He had time for everyone and enjoyed conversation and discussion.
Stafford was a baptised member of Downsview Methodist Church and attended regularly. He was loved by his peers and built up significant relationships with other parishioners.
Stafford always was a great fan of cricket and enjoyed watching the West Indies in international games on the television as well as attending matches at The Kia Oval and Lords.
Stafford is survived by his four children, 7 grandchildren as well as his loving wife and siblings; Winston, Jennilyn and George. He will be missed dearly as all will agree.
Dear Stafford/ Dad/ Grandad on behalf of everyone gathered today and those absent; may God rest your beautiful, unique soul.
