In Loving Memory of our beautiful Mum, Katrina (Tina) Elizabeth Carter, who sadly passed away on Monday 22nd of April.
Mum was born 22/11/1954 at Walton Hospital in Liverpool and was the eldest child of Brenda and Jimmy Cross.
Brenda passed in December of 2018 and Jimmy passed in August 1997. Brenda and Jimmy were publicans and quite the local 'celebrities' in Kirkby.
Mum was the oldest of 4 children. She had a brother Malcolm who unfortunately passed away in October of 2016. Mum is survived by her two sisters – Denise who is 66 and Mandy who is 59.
School for Mum was Stanley Park comprehensive; where her sister Denise says Mum was always the brainy one!
Mum’s first home was number 90 Claudia Street. When Mum was around 14 she started working for her Aunt Pat on Saturdays, who had a hairdressing salon in City Road, called Pat’s Hairdressers. Mum worked there full time when she left school. Mum moved on from there to work at Hills Salon in Bold Street; it was here where she did her apprenticeship when she was 17.
The house in Claudia Street didn’t have a bathroom so each Friday the whole family would go to Nanny Lucy’s house at number 119 for a bath! Brenda and Jimmy went first, then Tina, and then Denise. (Mandy was still a baby and Malcolm still really young so they didn’t take part in this weekly ritual). The same bath water was used…just got topped up if it got cold.
Mum was quite artistic when younger and she used to love painting. Denise remembers Mum's paintings being on the walls when they lived at The Atlantic Pub..
Mum was a brilliant swimmer and used to swim for North Liverpool. All the kids in the family were good at swimming as their second home was Queens Drive baths! Mum swam for most of her life and didn’t think twice of knocking out a mile which is 60 lengths at Waterside pool even in to her 50s.
Mum went backpacking for three months to Europe in her early 20s with her friend Lynne who was also a bridesmaid at Mum and Dad’s wedding. As a family, we used to joke that this was her ‘B.O. and no knickers phase’ to which Mum would always reply ….”I never had B.O!”
When Mum was 24 and her sister Denise was 21 they went on holiday to Cala Malor in Majorca. This was where Mum met John Carter who was on holiday with his brother Tony....the rest as they say is history!
Mum and Dad married in Liverpool on the 27th of October 1979 which was also Emma's 4th birthday and she was proud as punch to be one of the bridesmaids!
Mum and Dad bought their first house together on Canvey Road in 1979 and clearly had a bit of an extended honeymoon period before thinking about more children! Chris was born in June of 1985 and Jack in October of 1987.
