I WAS NOT A CLOSE FRIEND BUT I HAPPENED TO MENTION HIS NAME TO A CRICKET FRIEND LAST WEEKEND SO TODAY I RESEARCHED AND WAS SAD TO HEAR HE HAD PASSED AWAY EARLIER THIS YEAR .

In loving memory of Michael Murray who sadly passed away on 28th March 2024.
Mike was born in 1930 and lived a fulsome life which included a fantastic career in cricket and with Lloyds Bank. His many hobbies and interests ranged from sports, playing golf, travel, bridge, crosswords, reading, corresponding with friends and gardening. As well as cricket committees, he fundraised for Sevenoaks Hospital and sat on various committees as treasurer. He embraced everything he did with aplomb and was genuinely interested in friends and family as he engaged fully in people's stories. His five grandchildren range between 13 and 35. He followed their progress at school and university with great interest, knowing what the recent grades were and how aspirations were developing in their career paths.
He shared a happy life with Tessa for 40 years until her loss in 2014. They enjoyed many common interests, and played bridge as a formidable team. Since retiring they set up a Bed and Breakfast which saw guests returning over many years, some became friends. Their travels and cruises took them all over the world. Since Tessa's departing us, Mike carved out an energetic life for himself including a real enthusiasm for cooking for himself and others. He taught his neighbours bridge and excelled in the pre game drinks and nibbles.
Although it is with great sadness that he has gone, we celebrate that he lived independently in his home which he loved right up to the end.
As a mark of gratitude to the amazing care the Hospice in the Weald gave to Dad in the last hours of his life, we have chosen to fundraise for this very special place in his name.
His family and friends will say goodbye to Mike on Thursday 25th April at 10am at the Tunbridge Wells Crematorium and afterwards at the Hotel du Vin for a more informal gathering and a toast. You are welcome to join us. Please see further details or email Sarah.
Warmest wishes,
Sarah, Patrick and Richard
