Ray,
Many times our paths crossed without us knowing each other. We were both Ganges boys me in 1967 you 4 years later when I was back at Ganges as ship’s company. Then again in Malta in 1976 both drafted there married accompanied and we lived about 100 metres apart in married quarters but didn’t know each other. We both joined BTP where we did meet and realised our Naval connections.
Another strange connection was when we had both booked a holiday to Tunisia
and didn’t realise until we met at the airport. We kept in touch over the years and even met up in Benidorm when I was living in Spain. We had some good laughs as dog handlers. I remember that you were very particular regarding higiene and cleanliness. One night we were giving our dogs a run in the car park at Regents Park. Boyci jumped up on you having trod in a pile of dog shxt and it was all on your trousers and hands. You were aghast and nothing to clean it up with. I noticed an empty Macdonleds carton with some nice clean serviettes in a bin. I pointed them out to you and you picked them up and opened them up to clean your hands when a used comdon plopped in your hand. You went bollistic and started to hipper ventilate. I couldn’t stop laughing and had to rush you to Baker Street for a good clean up.
You have been a real pleasure to have known and I will miss meeting up with you. R I P Ray till we meet again.

Ray,
I can't believe I'm writing this! We first met back in Feb 1982 when I joined the job. You later became my dog section partner for many years with 'Boycie' ,then 'Buster' and finally 'Charlie'. I don't think we ever stopped laughing really and so very many funny stories to tell but as close working partners sharing the same van, we shared the ups & downs of each other's personal lives too, having a good whinge, moan and laugh together at each others trials and tribulations. I finally persuaded you many years ago to have a foreign holiday with Gill and that was it, you never stopped having holidays and most definately started a new travelling chapter in your lives. It was while working together when I met my (now) wife, kate and I am eternally grateful for the sound advice you gave me. We worked together right up to your retirement from the force and sadly over time lost touch a bit as people do, which I am sad about but your life was always about your family who were most precious to you. You never missed a day when you didn't phone your mum, or your kids which is an act we could all do with following! I will miss you mate but I'll always remember you with a smile on my face and the many funny stories, which are things of legend will live on. You were a great partner but more importantly a great friend, so I won't say goodbye, just 'adios my friend' as Jim reeves would say and we'll have one more Thursday night curry when we meet again. Until then my friend.......

Stumpy x🍺

Can't believe your gone. I've told my partner all about you & the dogs. Even how I was terrified of you, hiding behind uncle Cyril. Still don't understand why, you were the kindest gentlest man. I treasure my policeman teddy. Sleep peacefully Ray

I miss you everyday and wish you were still here,
Even just a phone call, or to know that you live near

I think about you often, of memories I hold dear,
I have always felt your love and pride, a caring dad it’s clear

I know you are watching over me, and always by my side,
We will meet again one day, on the other side.

I will see you in the sunsets, the dark and starry nights, in the laughter of my children and in life’s other delights.

We will be reunited, in a distant far off day - the reunion will be joyous, a wonderful soirée
but until this time just know I love you, I will hold you in my heart, I will never be alone, we’ll never really be apart.
