It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Angela Mary Parkinson, 85, who passed away on Thursday 21 March 2024.

A devoted wife to the late John, loving mother to Tony, Julie and Peter, beloved grandmother to Christopher, Lucy, Charles, Oliver, Alastair, Annabel, Rose and Bryony and great grandmother to John and Ollie.

Angela was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Ken and Mollie Winsor of Hessle in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Having spent the War Years in Belfast, Angela returned to Hessle to be educated at Beverley Grammar School. While studying there, she met the love of her life, John, and was made Head Girl. She then went on to study for her Bachelor’s degree at Queen Elizabeth College in London.

Marrying John in 1959, she completed her training in 1960, became a teacher and they moved to Newcastle where Tony, the first of their three children was born. Julie joined them in 1965 and then, having moved south to Melton Mowbray, Peter completed the family in 1969. Angela spent much of the later 1960s and early 1970s raising and nurturing her three children and of course, supporting her entrepreneur husband, John.

In 1974, with John as Managing Director and Angela as Financial Director, they set up the business that would thrive for almost 50 years under their, and subsequently their childrens’, direction. Despite the ups and downs of the commercial world, the successes of the business allowed Angela and John to enjoy some of their favourite things – amazing holidays, property in Spain and always, family.

Angela and John retired at the turn of the millenium and were fortunate to spend two decades travelling and enjoying family life with the addition of 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Having lost her dear husband in 2023, one year and one day later, Angela finally passed away with her three children by her side.

‘She was the rock on which our family was built and thrived - she was our very foundation, our stability and we absolutely adored her. She will be greatly missed’.

Hi Tony, Julie and Peter.
So sorry to hear the sad news of Angie. What a lovely lady she was. I only knew her for a very short time, but what a delight to meet John and all of your lovely family.
My thoughts and love are with you at this sad time. I'm afraid I will not be able to attend the funeral.
Much love
Helen Stringfellow

  • Angie and John were in my thoughts a few days ago, and then I received the notice of Angelia’s passing. My sincere condolences to Angie and John’s family. My late husband Robert (if I can speak on his behalf) and I have so many fond memories of working with John when he visited our pet food plant in Streetsville, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada way back when, and of our time spent in their company in Melton Mowbray. A beautiful couple who exemplified love, kindness, honesty, grace and friendship. May they rest in peace. Maggie Bras.

Too many memories to list, but I will always remember our soaking wet day on the New River. Angela was a rock to me also, and kept me from straying too far!
