I have been on holiday until this evening, so I didn't know that Audrey had died! My best wishes go to Barry through this very difficult time and I hope he manages it well. I haven't got my mobile working unfortunately, so I didn't know until I read all of my emails. Thank you for letting me know. Love to all of the Hope family.

In loving memory of Audrey Elizabeth Hope who sadly passed away, peacefully and without pain, on 4th March 2024
Audrey was born in Rugby, Warwickshire to Hilda and Robert Watchman. Audrey and elder sister Jeanne moved with their parents to Coningsby Road, Woodthorpe with Robert’s new job around the outbreak of WW2.
She attended the fledgling church in Woodthorpe that was to become St Marks, attending guides and singing if in the choir, the start of a lifelong interest in music.
Audrey attended Arno Vale School and later Church Drive School.
Later she worked as a librarian in Arnold and in the haberdashers and knitting department of Jessops (now John Lewis).
Audrey met Barry through their mutual mothers meeting and becoming friends in the local branch of the Towns Woman’s Guild
They married on the 5th June 1958 at St James Church, Porchester (as St Marks Church was not yet constructed)
They lived on Belper Avenue in Carlton.
Stephen was born in 1962 and this was soon followed by a move to Somersby Road, Woodthorpe which was to remain their marital home where Audrey ensured that family life performed like the proverbial Swiss watch in a strong partnership with Barry, supporting Stephen through school, scouts, music and university. In 1981 Stephen met Melanie who was quickly welcomed into family life before they got married in 1985.
Over the years the family enjoyed boating and caravanning, the latter being enjoyed both in the UK and on the continent with their family and many friends in the Civil Service Motoring Association. Later, Audrey and Barry also enjoyed visiting Stephen and Melanie at their house in Belgium and any other family get togethers.
Audrey enjoyed a fulfilling and active outdoor life with her love for dogs and nature and enjoyed over 65 years of happy marriage.
She was a kind, gentle and loving person and will be sadly missed by us all.
May she forever rest in peace.
Our thanks go to all our family and friends for your support and kind words at this sad time.
Barry, Stephen and Melanie
