In loving memory of Mary Vivienne Maureen Quartermain who sadly passed away on 17th February 2024

Our mother was a huge presence in our lives and we are immensely grateful for the incredible kindness that has been extended towards us during the past couple of weeks. Of course, Mary was also a sister and much loved grandmother, and her loss will be keenly felt by all who knew her. It has been lovely to hear so many fond memories of Mary from her fabulous friends.

The last year or two were very challenging for Mum but she displayed incredible grace and courage throughout her illness and we are very grateful for the medical care that she received. Above all else, she demonstrated enormous strength and this was an enduring feature of her character. After our father's death, she was left to bring up two boys aged six and eight. She devoted much of her life to ensuring that we had the very best opportunities that life could offer. I know that Mum would want us to celebrate her life and that the best tribute to her memory is to live life with courage and kindness.

Thinking fondly of a wonderful Aunt. This was the only photo I could find but in many ways it encapsulates a lot about you. Here, deep in conversation with Grandad but it could have been anyone who looked like they wanted a bit of company, and soon after this photo you grabbed a broom and helped with the post-party clear up. I will miss your conversation, humour, and your brandy butter. The boys think of you whenever they play "keep a straight face". Much love Rebecca xxx

It was with great sadness that I received the news that Mary had died. We became friends when we taught together in the early 1970' at St Teresa's school in Sunbury. Despite living right across the country from each other we saw each other as much as possible and we had such lovely times when Andrew, Jeremy and my children were young. We've always kept in touch and she was my dearest friend .I will always remember her as being incredibly kind generous and often with a dry sense of humour. I will miss her so much. My thoughts are with all her family.

  • Mary's wedding dress was made from a heavy cotton lace with small decorative flowers. The remaining flowers from the fabric were cut out and appliquéd to the hem line of the bridesmaids dresses.
