In loving memory of Nancy ("Pat") Armitage (nee Gibson) who sadly passed away on 24th February 2024.
Born Nancy Margaret Gibson on 15th May 1940, she was known by family and many friends as Pat.
Pat was born in Thirsk to William Gibson and Nancy Marshall, a little sister to Bill Gibson. Pat and Bill moved to Huddersfield in 1944 and Pat was brought up by her loving step-mother Annie.
She left school at the age of 15 to work for the Post Office as a switchboard operator. She made many friends, grew in confidence, learned to drive and met her future husband Edward Armitage. Pat and Ed married in 1968.
Pat and Ed raised their family in Meltham. Shelley (born 1971) and Antony ("Tony", born 1973.) Pat was a working mum, she worked as a receptionist and telephonist for most of her career. This was a job that suited her outgoing personality, and she worked alongside many friends. Together with Ed, she built a beautiful modern house, a bungalow which they built from scratch to their own requirements. This was the family home for many years until Pat and Ed separated in 1992.
Pat then moved to Thongsbridge and later to Honley. She enjoyed weekends away with friends, especially time spent in the Cotswolds with Val and visiting Shelley who had moved away. Pat was very happy to become a grandmother in her 60s.
The family is grateful to the NHS, whose care enabled Pat to survive many health crises and live long enough to be remembered by her five grandchildren. The family is also grateful to the kind and attentive staff at Astley Grange Nursing Home, where Pat lived out her final months with dignity and comfort.
Pat is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Shelley Purchon and Tony Armitage and her nieces Karen and Deb Gibson. She also loved and was proud of her daughter-in-law Niove Armitage, son-in-law Russell Purchon, and her 5 grandchildren (Nathan, Erin, Theo, Wells and Oscar.) Her close friends Val Rowley and Jenny Armitage will miss her too.
