In loving memory of Doreen Barbara Howard who sadly passed away on 29th January 2024.
She was daughter to Eric and Gladys, and sister to Sheila. She was a loving wife to Ron for 68 years. She was a much loved mother to Pearl, Lesley, Deborah and Sharon, grandmother to Billy, Alice, Alex, Charlie, Tom and Kim, and great grandmother to Bertie and Edie.
She was a voracious reader, often with multiple books 'on the go' at any one time. She loved art, in which she had a real talent, beginning with sketching the 1950s Hollywood stars she admired. She rekindled her artistic talents later in life, joining an art club, and her work was exhibited at the Hall Place gallery.
She loved gardening and her multiple hanging baskets were beautiful. They were her pride and joy, entailing the need for her daughters to 'take care of them' when she went on holiday.
She loved swimming and cycling into her 60s and 70s. She also joined Belvedere Social Bowls Club, after being introduced to the sport by Ron. She threw herself into it and ultimately won cups and trophies and became Secretary of the club. The Club became a huge part of Doreen and Ron's life, with them playing most weekends and going on tours all over the UK and abroad. They made many important and dear friends at the Club with whom they have stayed in touch to this day.
In summary, Doreen was a wonderful, intelligent, interesting, determined, funny person who was loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

  • Hi Lesley you won’t know me but I have only just seen that your mum died back in Jan. I worked with her at Barclays and she came to my wedding in 1988. I loved her. She was my fb friend and noticed she wasn’t in there today. You can message me on fb under Karen Smith or email me on Karensmatter44@gmail.com My maiden name was Karen Smith. I crochered a baby blanket for your eldest. Love to you and your family Karen Smith
