Mum was passionate about Sherborne Developmental Movement (SDM) and became an Internationally Qualified Course Leader in 2022. The objectives of Sherborne reflect her lifelong commitment to supporting people to develop confidence in themselves and in their relationships with others.
In her own words: ‘SDM enables me to offer movement challenges…in an enjoyable and creative way, through experiences with others…promoting and developing self-confidence and esteem, and communication skills…and facilitates the making of different types of relationship through moving with others in a safe and trusting atmosphere and environment’.
Caroline developed Sherborne-based movement curriculums for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex learning difficulties, practising this in her work at Rosewood and Great Oaks schools. She was a founding member of the Southampton Special Schools Sherborne Sharing Hub, had volunteered as the Sherborne Association UK’s Secretary for the past five years, and even led a course to train new practitioners whilst in recovery from chemotherapy last year.
We wanted to set up The Caroline Robins Bursary to ensure more people can benefit from SDM. It will support other people passionate about the benefits of movement to train in SDM and gain their Internationally Qualified Course Leader (IQCL) status so that they can continue to educate others in SDM.
