In loving memory of Lois Ward who sadly passed away on 21st January 2024
Lois was a force to be reckoned with. She was such a strong and amazing women.
She was born in Loughton, and moved around a fair bit. She spent her twilight years living in Houghton Regis.
She had 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Lois loved to dance, she was always dancing, when she was younger she danced on a TV show and spent as much time dancing as she could. She even danced when she was older, attending line dancing sessions at her church and later on joined a ballroom dancing club.
She married Wally at the age of 21. She met Wally when she was attending a dance club, he was the bouncer at the pub downstairs. Together they ran a post office/shop on Park Street in Luton, which she would always talk about, she loved the job a lot. Lois was very good at maths, even in her older years she was able to work things out in her head quicker than I could on my calculator!!
Lois and Wally were blessed with 2 children, Jackie and Alan. Childhood was always quite adventurous and fun, always going away on holiday abroad and lots of days out to the zoo or places like that. One year they went abroad to Spain, but both Jackie and Alan had the chicken pox.... so Lois covered them in make up to hide it so that they would be allowed to board and spent the next 2 days recovering in the hotel room!
Lois was blessed with 5 grandchildren - Jenni, Jade, Larisa, Nadia and Liam. Her grandchildren became her world from this point. She was always ready and willing to take them out or spend any time with them that she could.
Lois was also very blessed to have been with us long enough to have 3 Great Grandchildren - Jayden, Aleisha and Ryan. She was over joyed with this and was the best great grandmother she could be. She loved spending time with them even more, and would spoil them rotten at every chance she had!
Sadly after her first grandchild was born, she lost her beloved Wally. After this, she became very involved with church and became a strong believer in the Church of England religion. She attended St Hughes in Lewsey Farm Luton. Lois was always volunteering for things with the church, she helped them to keep their accounts sorted and was always there to listen and help out fellow members of the congregation. She was a very active member.
When her older 2 grandchildren were at a good age, she took them to Sunday school at her church, and would take her older 2 great grandchildren to 'Tiddlers' at her church on a Thursday, which she also helped at so was always running backwards and forwards between them and helping!!
At one point, Lois was always so busy with all her hobbies, church responsibilties and everything else, that you had to book an appointment to be able to see her!
Although saying this, if you needed her, she would drop everything and come to your aid! One time, before Jenni learnt to drive, she was picking Jayden up from school, Aleisha was in her buggy, and just as they were heading to bus stop, the skies opened with torrential rain and probably one of the only decent thunder storms Luton has ever seen! She called Lois and she jumped straight in her car and came to the school to take them home, even though she was afraid of storms!
Sadly, Covid-19 came, and this was the beginning of Lois' decline in her health. As most elderly people, Lois was told to isolate and was not supposed to go out. Her granddaughter (as she was the only one local) was able to do her shopping for her and was able to pop round and chat 'socially distanced' on the door step, and air hug. This was when Lois got her first ever smart phone! That was so much fun! Jenni was constantly on the landline or having to pop round to explain to her how to work the phone! She was extremely pleased with herself when she learnt to send emojis on whatsapp!!
Lois slowly became more frail as the years passed and was able to do less and less by herself. She started to fall a lot and was unable to get up without assistance, which eventually lead to her having a fall when putting rubbish in the bin, causing her to have a bleed on the brain. This was when Lois started to become confused and the decision was made for her to move into a care home. Sadly, Lois spent more time in the last 3-4 months in hospital than anywhere else and was very up and down.
We can now all rest assured that she is at peace and with her GOD and her Wally, she is no longer in pain and she has clarity over everything.
She was and is very loved and will be missed by so many people. She was a shining light in this world and will forever hold a place in the hearts of so many people
Rest In Eternal Peace Angel!
