In loving memory of Sheila Ann Waldram-McCabe who sadly passed away on 19th January 2024.
Sheila Waldram Mccabe 19/05/41- 19/01/24
Sheila was born at 6 Napoleon terrace, Bell Street Nottingham to Marjorie May and Arthur Ernest Bagguley on May 19th 1941
She had an older brother Keith “who ironically died on this very day 21 years today x
Sheila had two sisters that were twins, Christine and Carol x
The sisters can’t remember too much about Sheila’s growing up, as they were 10 years younger than Sheila x
Sheila would talk about their dad bringing home injured animals to try nurse them back to good health and one day he brought home an injured greyhound and called it “Dustbin”, but died from its injuries sustained in a dog race.
The twins remember going to watch greyhound races with their dad and maybe that’s why Sheila spent most of her life working in bookmakers and was well known in Nottingham, working for Cuthbert and Blackwell, George Akins and Corals in shops on donkey hill, both bookies on Arnold road and in the chase in the meadows.
In the 1960s Sheila met John Batchford and lived at Eastam Cottages off Carlton road and they had their first of 4 children together “ Vicki, Darren and Lee and in the early 70s they moved to 11 Stoneycroft road park lane Basford and that’s where Daniel was born.
The children remember lots of holidays to chapel saint Leonards and to Cornwall and Torquay.
Sadly Sheila and john divorced around 1978.
Sheila had 10 grandchildren Mark, Thomas, Tyler, Kirtsty, Keaton, Aaron, Laura, Ellie Mae, Alex and also looked as Charlie “Keaton’s sister as her grandchild x
Sheila had 5 great grand children Junior, Evie, Lily Mae, Freya and Leo of who she loved them all in her own momar Shelia way
In the late 1970’s Sheila met Tony Pearson and moved in to Heaton Close, St Anns well road and often squeezed all the children in their one bedroom flat somehow.
They moved to 3 Lodgewood Close in the early 80s and that became the family home and over the next couple of years and the 4 children moved in with them.
Sadly Tony was killed in a terrible freak accident under an oil tanker while he was trying to repair it and on that day Shelia and Daniel were there with him and it must have been a terrible ordeal for them both x
We often think if Tony were alive, the two would have still been together.
In 1987 Sheila did meet a soul mate Gordon while she was working back at the bookies she started working at all those years ago on donkey hill.
He took mum for a drink and mum only wanted one whiskey Mack and Gordon thought, this lady isn’t a drinker, she’s the one for me x
Sheila married Gordon on the 9th February 1989 at Shakespeare Street And they often said, “People said we wouldn’t last 10 years, but they stayed married until Gordon sadly passed away 2019 with Sheila being on her own at the time, as it was Keaton’s 21st birthday and some family were on the east coast and part of the family in Benidorm. Mum really did lose her soul mate that day
They had lots of happy years together and enjoyed lots of holidays together Turkey, Tunisia, Benidorm. Sheila also went to Menorca and Gran Canaria with her sisters, but mum still had a soft spot for the east coast at Ingoldmels and Chaple St Leonards and they spent lots of holidays with Vicki, Munch, Tyler and Kirsty at Ingoldmels and took them often to the embankment and Ilkeston fair, Matlock as well as the car boot every Sunday.
In 2018 Sheila went to Benidorm for Gordon and Keaton’s girlfriend Corey’s birthday with Daniel. Darren and mark Harrison jumped on board as well 😀
We as a family would like to thank Alan “Munch” for making mums coffin and Tyler and Kirsty for picking a lovely one for momar. Munch you’ll will always be family to us x
Sheila went back to Benidorm 2019 with Darren to take Vicki away to get some sun to help her feel better and we all know Vicki loves the sun 😀
Sheila’s last holiday was down at Daniels caravan, she had a lovely time with Vicki, Lee and his wife Pauline and Alex before they set off on their new adventure in Dubai and mum really enjoyed her time there with them all x
Sheila’s last couple of trips she went on were to West Bridgford charities shops with Vicki, Tyler and Ben and enjoyed her rummage around, she loved charities shops.
Her last trip was to Matlock with Keaton and Corey, just a quick go on the slot machines and to buy some bonfire toffee from the sweet shops there x
Sheila was pretty much a loner and didn’t really mix and liked her own space at home she never really talked to the neighbours much and the neighbours were Darren’s wife “Sharon’s mum and dad “ she loved Sharron dearly and more so for keeping Darren on his toes 😀
Christine and Tony and Carol and Dave would pop up every other week and family would pop and see her, but we always knew when It was time to go, as mum used to hint in her way and always have one eye on the TV, then when others went up, she would say know ones been up, but she really did like to be doing her own thing.
Shelia had lots of proud moments of her children
When Vicki told her she had a granddaughter when Tyler was born because Darren and Sharron had two boys.
Lee graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a first class honours degree and became a secondary school teacher and she was so happy “maybe because she got free holidays in Guernsey, jersey 😀
Her proud moment with Darren was when he won care home worker of the year in 2017 in Nottingham and he was known as the singing maintenance man and Sheila and Gordon went to the plaza in Nottingham to see him received the award with over 1000 people there and you could hear Gordon’s voice still in the background 😀
Her proud moments of Daniel was his wedding “ which one “ J and she loved himWorking at farmfoods just to get free food J. Daniel was always mum’s blue eyed boy
Sheila loved musicals and her favourites were 7 brides for 7 brothers and calamity Jane and she loved old films and she would always tell you who the stars were.
Sheila loved the slot machines and ironically her last job was working at one of the arcades in Bulwell and met lots of new friends there.
Mum loved the garden and spent most of the last few years pottering around and
Trying to make it nice, but really spent most of the time sweeping up the blossom and leavesJ
She loved her roses, camellias, lilies and magnolia tree and her water features and loved her animals and always had stray cats in her house and sadly she lost her cat called Ellie a year ago, but always left the door or cat flap open hoping another stray would come in, but the cats were more interested in the birds.
Mum fed the bird’s daily and when I say she fed the birds better than herself I mean just that 😀
Mum had a new hip in 2022 and I really think she thought she would be running around like a 20 year old, but she forgot she was still in her 80s
Mum loved having a hair done and Emma would come and do it every fortnight and Darren always knew she’d been, because he could smell the hair lacquer.
Mum used to use a scooter and fetch her paper and take a break that she would give Sharron every Friday and she loved the television and it really was a big part of mums final years and she loved Heartbeat, Coro, Emmerdale, Vera and call the midwife, but not the latest shows, but the old re runs
She would get the tv mag every Tuesday, but why ill never know, as she only ever watched channel 10 and the same programs over and over 😀
Mums started to stop doing the things she did around Christmas time and slowly started to become weak and not want to go out, but she had the happy news the Kirsty and Boy Tyler were going to have another baby, another great grandson and she was happy with the news as she said “that would be nice for Freya “
Mum went to the doctors on the 8th January with all the symptoms of depression and thought it was winter blues, but sadly mum slowly went down hill.
On the Thursday she was taken to hospital and on Saturday while mum was there she was shown a photo by Thomas and she said “it’s a baby”, so she knew Katie and Thomas were also having another baby, but know one else was told, and that day Vicki messaged Darren to ask was it true .He said no, she must be on about Kristy’s news, but that was mum all over, she loved to gossip between the family 😀
We were told the dreaded news on the Thursday mum had cancer and there was nothing they could do and mum said, “ it’ll soon be spring “ we knew what she meant, “the bulbs will be coming out soon” she looked at Darren and said “Don’t worry darling, then said “I’m sorry “
The hospital told us mum had about 3 months, but more likely weeks and were fast tracking her to get home.
Sadly mum passed away on Friday 19th of January at 13.40 with her family at her bedside
Mum/momar/great momar was a special lady to us all in different ways and she will be in our hearts and memories forever and we all know Gordon will be waiting for her and when he see mum he knows he’s going to have to be on his toes again 😀
