In loving memory of John Handley Kellett, 74, of Holbury, Southampton.

John sadly passed away of cancer at Southampton Hospital on the 7th January 2024.

The beloved husband and father is survived by his wife, Linda, 76, his son Gary, 54, grandchildren, Bethan, 22, Lexi,11, and brother Christopher.

John joined the Navy at 15 years of age and travelled the world. He was very proud to serve on the Royal Yacht Britannia and served on the yacht when Princess Ann and Captain Mark Phillips honeymooned in the Caribbean, in 1973.
He then went on to become a fireman serving at Fawley fire station. John served in the Hampshire Fire Brigade for 23 years, and was proud to receive his long service award. He also appeared on the TV programme, Blue Peter, while in the Fire Brigade. He served his country for over 30 years.
John also served as a Benefits Advisor in the Civil service, before retiring in 2013.

He was an avid football fan, and supported Manchester United from a young boy. He particularly enjoyed the Alex Ferguson years.

His real passion in life, however, was his family. John was married for over 55 years and enjoyed many holidays abroad with his wife.

John was known to be friendly, kind, thoughtful, and had a good sense of humour. He loved to put a smile on peoples faces, and also enjoyed "pulling their leg".

A celebration of John's life will be held at the funeral service.

Family members only.

The family request instead of sending flowers, please make any charitable donations to Oakhaven Hospice Trust. They looked after John so well during his cancer treatment.

Dear John,
Thank you for bring so much joy & happiness to the world. You didn't deserve to be taken so soon but everyday, when the sun shines bright, I will think of you for the star that you were. The countless memories I will never forget (I only just forgive you for pricking my leg with a safety pin) and the new ones you will watch me make. I will never forget your kind & happy face. Enjoy your rest up in heaven.

John,
You always bought a smile to everyone's face & lit up the room. Usually "pulling someone's leg" As a child John used to call me "Lisa know all" which I thought was so funny. Such a great man.
Rest in peace John, it won't be the same without you. See you on the other side.
Love your favourite niece.

Always a real pleasure to see John. He was great fun, very welcoming, hospitable and nothing seemed too much trouble. Fond memories of family get togethers, John centre stage, and amusing us with his dry, witty sense of humour. Will be greatly missed by us all and so sad that he is no longer with us.

John, from me being a child, I always knew you was a special person. I remember the times you came to visit us in leicester. You was so funny, when you danced about and poked a joke. You brought so much fun and laughter to us all. Even making us laugh at our own mishaps. John was kind, caring and thoughtful and loved by many.
I will miss you greatly, things won’t be the same without you.
Thank you John.
Rest in peace.
Love Karen xxxx

Very sad news. Please accept my condolences. I worked with John in the early 1990s at Fawley Fire Station and really enjoyed working with him. He was good company with a great sense of humour, hard working and a very competent
firefighter.
