I woke up this morning wanting to email Alan to thank him for the difference he (and the ATC) made to me. Joining the Air Cadets was one of the best decisions I made as a teenager, and I gained more self confidence than I thought possible at the time. I’m truly saddened to hear of his passing, and my condolences go to his family. He was a wonderful, wonderful man. So here I am. Thank you, Alan. Thank you for believing in me and so many teenagers. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for your support and guidance. RIP

  • Tricia, Thank you for your kind words. Its so nice to hear Dad helped you become the person your are today. We as a family are so proud of him & how he had this effect on many of the young people who were apart of the ATC. Xxxx

Oh boy what a great man. I know we all
have to go at some point, but that doesn’t diminish the loss I feel as a 1983-85 cadet, and that was just from our twice weekly parades, so how do you quantify how his family must be feeling. No doubt they lost a bit of family time due to his passion, but I hope they get some solace from the written proof from these messages, that one man impacted so many lives, across the sexes and religious differences etc in the Dewsbury community. He brought us all-together to realise, fundamentally we are the same. He put me on my RAF path and boy that moulded me. I hope to see some of you at the funeral. I’m traveling a great distance to be there. I couldn’t have it any other way. What a top man
