In loving memory of Douglas Thomas Edwards who sadly passed away on 19th December 2023. Born Douglas Thomas Edwards to Harold and Beatrice on October 20th 1942 at Granger Street ,The Meadows.
Douglas was one of four brothers along with, Glynn, Barry and Melvyn.
As an infant and junior he attended Arkwright School, at the age of 11 Doug then attended Trent Bridge School, Doug was also a member of the cubs and scouts.
At the age of 15 Doug met Maureen who was then 14 years old, Maureen would follow Doug around on her bike.
At the age of 16, Doug then joined a light engineering company called Readers. At 19 years old Doug volunteered for the RAF and did his training at RAF Bridgnorth in Wolverhampton, 6 weeks later Doug was stationed at RAF Cotesmoor, Rutland, where he then spent the next 2 years working on Victor & Vulcan aircraft.
During Doug’s time in the RAF he spent six weeks in Malaysia and returned back to RAF Butterworth, on his return from Malaysia Doug knocked on his parents door and they did not recognise him, so tanned!
Soon after this he started to date Maureen however the RAF stationed Doug to Guteslow, Germany.
That didn’t stop ‘Dougie’ and Maureen getting married on March 23rd 1962 and having a wonderful wedding night in Lincoln.
Two days later Dougie was stationed back to Malaysia for a further six months. Later Dougie and Maureen lived in Germany for 2 years, then moving back to England found a house at Summerwood Lane, Clifton.
On their return Doug worked at Readers again.
In 1966 Adrian was born, at this time Doug and Maureen began their Bible Study together with Maureen’s brother Doug and his wife Margaret later joined by Jim Booth. They were both baptised in January of 1968. Doug then continued to progress in the Clifton congregation, later becoming an elder.
In May of 1969 Shaun was born at Summerwood Lane where the family would live for the next ten years. In the Spring of 1979 the family moved to Veronica Walk, Barton Green, Clifton where they still live today.
Doug’s devotion to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses saw him serve as an elder for many years and create a new congregation in Rushcliffe and in later years was an integral part of the Clifton congregation.
In 1987 Lindsay was born to Doug and Maureen as a wonderful surprise.
Doug spent many years in the Aeronautical Industry as an Engineer up until his retirement.
Doug was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015 but this didn’t hold him back. He was an avid supporter of Nottingham Forest FC, a member of the local Golf Society and had a large social network of friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew ‘Dougie’! Rest in peace you lovely man! X
